2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
As expected with most rookies, especially receivers, Claypool was highly volatile in his first season, but the Notre Dame alum flashed game breaking talent on his way to a 62-873-9 first season. Buoyed by a complete lack of running game, Claypool came out of nowhere to see 109 targets. While most considered the raw rookie to be a beast down field with his size/speed combination, Claypool also showed his run after the catch ability on drag and crossing routes. After only seeing 9 targets the first three weeks combined, Claypool won his owners plenty of games with a 7-115-3 explosion against the Titans in Week 5. The rookie, along with the whole offense, cooled tremendously in late November and into December, before finishing strong in the final two games. Rookie wall, attitude, preparation, or just defenses scheming better, it seemed the Steelers went away from the potent rookie even while the offense struggled, and Dionte Johnson dropped everything on sight. Some maturity issues seemed to pop up, and with a coach like Mike Tomlin, that isn't going to fly. As long as Johnson and Smith-Schuster are healthy, Claypool is going to have to make do with the leftovers. As I've said with the other receivers, repeating 2020 numbers with all three guys still around, and the addition of Najee Harris is simply not possible. I'll take Claypool as an upside WR3 in standard leagues, and a bench stash in PPR.

Injury JuJu Smith-Schuster expected to land on IR
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 11, 7:31 am

Pittburgh Steelers
Steelers expected to put JuJu Smith-Schuster on injured reserve and are fearful he will miss rest of the season after injuring his shoulder vs Broncos, per sources. (Gerry Dulac on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: JuJu returned to Pittsburgh this season on a one-year deal and will be a free agent at the end of the season. James Washington missed Week 5 with a groin injury. Expect Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool to be the main targets for Ben Roethlisberger moving forward.

Injury Diontae Johnson back at practice, Claypool & JuJu limited
Steelers at Packers in Week 4
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Sep 30, 4:17 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
New injury for the Steelers popped up today: WR Chase Claypool was limited with a hamstring injury. JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) was also limited. WR Diontae Johnson (knee) was upgraded to full participant, as was TJ Watt (groin). (Brooke Pryor on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Johnson missed last week with a knee injury but appears to be on track for Week 4 against the Packers. There's no indication at this time that Claypool or JuJu will miss but we'll m monitor their injury status as the week goes on.

Injury Big Ben in, Diontae Johnson Out
Knee injury for Diontae
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 24, 3:06 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger, as expected, will play vs. the Bengals. Diontae Johnson (knee), Alex Highsmith (groin) and Carlos Davis (knee) will not. (Adam Beasley on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Johnson was hurt on the last play of the game in Week 2 and will now miss the Steelers Week 3 game against the Bengals. That means more work JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool and James Washington. Roethlisberger has looked old in the first two games of the season finishing as the QB28 and QB23 respectively.

WR James Washington seeking trade from PIT
Limited playtime last season and so far this preseason
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 6, 12:33 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Steelers’ WR James Washington, a former 2018 second-round pick, has approached the Steelers and requested a trade based on his limited playtime last season and so far this preseason, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool in the mix, Washington slipped to a 30-392-5 line in 2020 after receiving 735 yards in 2019 as the fourth option in the passing game. He's looking at a similar workload in Pittsburgh in 2021 given the re-signing of JuJu Smith-Schuster. It's would be difficult to see the Steelers giving up WR depth unless the return is substantial.
