2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
Every time Dolphins fans look at the 2020 NFL Draft, they must get a sick feeling in the pit of their stomachs after Miami took Tua Tagovailoa ahead of Justin Herbert. While Tagovailoa could still carve out a solid NFL career, the odds of him being better than Herbert seem astronomical (barring injury, of course) as the Oregon product is already viewed as one of the top quarterbacks out there and is probably 1a/1b with Joe Burrow for QBs 25 and under -- and you'd only tack Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen ahead of that duo if you pushed the age limit out to 30.

While he was prone to some off days during his sophomore season, Herbert still finished the year with 5,014 yards passing, 302 yards rushing, 41 combined TDs (38 passing, 3 rushing), and 15 INTs. He has a tremendous arm, underrated athleticism, and, perhaps more importantly in the modern NFL, he trusts in his ability and the ability of his receivers to make plays, and he gives them that opportunity. Expect Herbert to get even more dangerous as he gains experience where the already rare poor decisions become even more infrequent.

Los Angeles may not have the depth of talent of some elite offenses, but the top of their depth chart is stacked with Pro Bowl contenders in the backfield and at receiver. Put an emerging superstar at the head of that offense, and the sky is the limit for what the Bolts could do in 2022 assuming their key pieces stay healthy. Other than Allen, who deserves to be the No. 1 quarterback selected, Herbert is in the conversation with Mahomes for the next QB off fantasy boards.

Injury Justin Herbert remains a gametime decision
May take pain-killing injection
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 25, 8:15 am

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is expected to make a decision during pregame warm-ups on Sunday about whether to take a pain-killing injection in his fractured rib cartilage to try and play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Herbert wants to play, a source told Schefter, but, there was growing skepticism about his status going into the weekend. The decision to play has bounced back and forth throughout the week, Schefter reports. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: This sounds like Herbert is truly a 50-50 call and puts fantasy owners in a bind considering the Chargers and Jaguars don't play until late-afternoon. Keenan Allen is in the same boat with his hamstring injury. He's listed as a gametime decision and can't be trusted even if he does play.

Injury Just Herbert, Keenan Allen listed as Questionable
Gametime decisions
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 23, 4:29 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), RT Trey Pipkins (ankle) and TE Donald Parham (hamstring) are questionable for Sunday along with Justin Herbert. CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) and C Corey Linsley (knee) are doubtful. Chase Daniel will start if Justin Herbert can’t go, Brandon Staley said. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The total on the Charges-Jaguars as dropped from LAC -7 earlier today to LAC -3.0 indicating Vegas doesn't think Herbert is going to play. They will put Herbert through a workout on Sunday before determining his status. Allen is also questionable to play after sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 1.

Injury Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen "day to day" per Staley
Herbert will participate in individual drills Wednesday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 21, 3:49 pm

Justin Herbert is “day to day” per Brandon Staley. Herbert threw yesterday and did some “rotational” work. He will participate in individual drills today, according to Staley. WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), TE Donald Parham (hamstring), C Corey Linsley (knee) and RT Trey Pipkins (ankle/foot) are all “day to day” per Brandon Staley. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Herbert suffered a rib in Week 2 and it remains to be seen if he will play in Week 3 against the Jaguars. Allen's hamstring injury occurred in Week 1. We'll know more about all the Chargers' wounded later in the week.

Injury Keenan Allen ruled out for Week 2
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 14, 2:50 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) and TE Donald Parham (hamstring) are OUT for Thursday night vs. Chiefs. CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) is QUESTIONABLE. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Allen injured his hamstring Week 1 and wasn't likely to play this week against the Chiefs given the short turnaround in Week 2. Mike Williams, Josh Palmer and DeAndre Carter will be the top three wideouts for Justin Herbert in a potential shootout. The Chiefs will be without rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring).
