2025 Outlook
Depth Chart
With Aiyuk injured and Samuel struggling, Jennings quietly emerged as San Francisco's top receiver threat last year. Previously known almost exclusively for his blocking prowess, the former Volunteer finished second on the club in receptions (77), yards (975), and touchdowns (6) while comfortably establishing new career bests in all three categories. Now, with Sameul gone and Aiyuk on the mend, Jennings heads into 2025 as the 49ers' de facto No. 1 receiver.

Despite a clear uptick in his fantasy profile, there are still plenty of question marks when it comes to valuing Jennings for the upcoming campaign: How much will the offense flow through a healthy McCaffrey? When will Aiyuk return and what will his role be when he does? How big of a leap will Ricky Pearsall take after having his rookie year derailed? How successful will Jennings be operating as a lead receiver without someone like Samuel to draw attention from secondaries?

There's a lot to digest with Jennings, who very much looks like a "your mileage may vary" option for fantasy owners. He's proven capable of at least producing at a WR3 level, but he's someone that's likely to have his most productive games early in the season, making him a potential "sell high" candidate. Taking a full-season view, Jennings, despite the added motivation of entering a contract year, is best viewed as a solid No. 4 fantasy wideout.

Injury Jauan Jennings could be put on IR
WR dealing with calf injury and contract unhappiness
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 25, 2:00 pm

San Francisco
Jauan Jennings' lingering calf injury and long contractual stalemate with the 49ers could combine to send him to the injured reserve list this week, multiple NFL sources indicated over the past few days. Putting on Jennings on IR -- which would sideline him for at least the first four games of the regular season -- would hurt Jennings financially by severely reducing his chances at triggering incentives and game bonuses and also would leave the 49ers dangerously thin at wide receiver at the start of the season. The mentioning of IR by the 49ers ... could be a tacit threat to the Jennings camp to try to get him back on the practice field in time to be ready for Week 1. (The San Francisco Standard)

FFToday's Take: Fantasy managers should expect Jennings' calf injury to miraculously heal over the next week, although all the time that he has missed will probably result in HC Kyle Shanahan's early-season game plans focusing mostly on Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Ricky Pearsall in the passing game. Continue to draft Jennings as a WR4 in fantasy.

Injury Brandon Aiyuk likely to return in early October
Shanahan: WR is "on track" to return around Week 6
By: Doug Orth | Tue Aug 12, 10:10 pm

San Francisco
Kyle Shanahan said all of the 49ers' ACL guys - including Brandon Aiyuk - are on track to be back around Week 6, he said. He said there's a range of weeks that Aiyuk could actually be back in a game, but that's the rough estimate at this point. (The Athletic - Matt Barrows)

FFToday's Take: This suggests that Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall will each have a nice runway for the first half of the season if they can get healthy in time for Week 1. Given how uncertain Aiyuk's return date sounds, there is a world Jennings and Pearsall can operate as clear starters for at least half of the season. Outside of the receivers, Aiyuk's absence figures to boost the floors of Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.
