2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
Largely considered the top receiver in the draft despite missing the 2020 season due to Covid opt-out, Chase gets reunited with his collegiate QB, and joins an offense ready to break out. Blessed with a unique athletic profile, and All-Pro skill-set, Chase should benefit greatly from his situation in Cinci. Reports from mini-camp have beamed about how quickly Chase and Burrow have reestablished their chemistry from college. Burrow lobbied the team to draft his former Tiger teammate, and I expect Coach Zach Taylor will look to get the rookie involved early. Justin Jefferson's historic rookie season is a good blueprint for Chase's offensive involvement, even if the presence of Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd put limits on his statistical potential. I expect Chase and Higgins to battle all season to lead this team in receiving, and likely be the better value at season's end. Being a rookie and having missed all of last season could lead to a slow start, but I absolutely love Chase as an upside WR3 you can probably get well after Higgins is off the board.

Injury Tee Higgins out for Week 4
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 29, 3:27 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals WR Tee Higgins and S Jessie Bates III are officially out Thursday night against the Jaguars. (Field Yates on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Higgins missed last week as well with his shoulder injury. The Bengals have employed a run-heavy approach to start the season but their passing game should be centered around Ja'Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd on Thursday. Both are viable options with Chase holding the larger upside.

Ja'Marr Chase experiencing growing pains
Rookie WR coming along slower than hoped early in camp
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 9, 3:00 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
A thought existed that Ja'Marr Chase could walk on to the Paul Brown Stadium practice fields and dominate from the first snap. His skill set is that unique. You see flashes of that early, but you also see somebody tentatively getting used to a new offense, new league and not playing football since January 2020. He has endured a string of drops, on short and long passes, with another coming Sunday. He has not shown as much separation as you’d hope, and the contested balls haven’t gone his way much, either. (The Athletic - Paul Dehner Jr.)

FFToday's Take: As Dehner goes on to say, Chase's "skills and history are too impressive to think he won’t find a groove once he starts playing off instincts instead of constantly having to think about what he’s doing every play." Nevertheless, it is a reminder that he is a rookie who did not play football at all last year, meaning he may need more than the 10 or so practice the Bengals have had so far before it clicks. He should still be considered a strong back-end WR2 at worst in drafts.
