With Fields and the crowded running back room making the Chicago backfield a fantasy mess to avoid, Khalil Herbert is the one guy that I think has the most potential to strike gold. Much like Alexander Mattison in Minnesota, Herbert was stuck behind a vet, but when he saw starters' touches, he shined. Whatever the issue, Herbert was never given an opportunity to overtake David Montgomery last season despite being ultra efficient with a 5.7 yards-per-carry average on 129 carries. Like many teams in the NFL, Chicago has chosen to go young and cheap in the backfield, and I fully expect them to utilize a three-back rotation for most of the season. Chicago was 2nd in the NFL with 558 rushing attempts, but I expect that to drop this season as they ask Fields to take on more as a passer. While I don't think Herbert has much standalone value, his history of production when given starters touches makes him the highest upside of anyone in the backfield.

D'Onta Foreman listed as Doubtful for Week 12 Ankle, shin injuries By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 25, 2:50 pm

| | Bears are listing RB D'Onta Foreman as doubtful for Monday night vs. the Vikings due to ankle and shin injuries. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Foreman was limited in practice on Friday and Saturday but isn't expected to play Monday night given the Doubtful tag. In his place, expected Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson to handle the majority of the running back work with Herbert in the lead back role.

| Bears activate Khalil Herbert off Injured Reserve Expected to play in Week 11 By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 18, 2:19 pm

| | The Bears officially activated RB Khalil Herbert off injured reserve.
LBs Micah Baskerville and DeMarquis Gates were elevated from the practice squad to game day roster. (Courtney Cronin on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Herbert last played in Week 5 and has been dealing with an ankle issue ever since. D'Onta Foreman has been on the injury report this week with an ankle issue of his own but is expected to play according to Jeremy Fowler. Expect both to share the backfield against the Lions with Roschon Johnson on the outside looking in.

| Khalil Herbert expected to miss Week 10 Ankle injury By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 9, 7:19 am

| | From @gmfb: The #Bears are expected to be without QB Justin Fields and RB Khalil Herbert again tonight, while the #Panthers get one key player back on defense. @nflnetwork (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Herbert is still on IR and it appears he will remain there this week as he recovers from an ankle injury. If he sits, expect D'Onta Foreman to lead the Bears backfield against the Panthers with Roschon Johnson mixing in. Foreman will be on the RB2 radar against the Panthers who've given up the 2nd most fantasy points to the position.

| Roshcon Johnson out for Week 6 D'Onta Foreman expected to start By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 13, 3:21 pm

| | #Bears RBs Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer are all officially out for Sunday's game vs. Minnesota. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: It looks D'Onta Foreman will get the start this week with and handle the bulk of the carries against the Vikings. Foreman has some Flex appeal in Week 6. Darrynton Evans was signed earlier this week and should be active on gameday.

| Roschon Johnson misses practice Wednesday Concussion By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 11, 3:12 pm

| | #Bears' Eddie Jackson and Jaylon Johnson were limited in their first full practice since they were hurt in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively. TE Cole Kmet was limited with a hamstring.
#Bears RBs Khalil Herbert, Roschon Johnson and Travis Homer didn't practice. (Patrick Finley on X)
FFToday's Take: Johnson suffered a concussion in Week 4 during the Bears Thursday night game against the Commanders. With Kahlil Herbert (ankle) out, Johnson has an opportunity to start but needs to pass the concussion protocol first. If he doesn't, D'Onta Foreman would likely start and get the bulk of the carries for the Bears against the Vikings.
