2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
Like everything else Tom Brady, fantasy TB12 is the exception, not the rule, especially since his move to Tampa Bay two seasons ago. In this age of dual threat quarterbacks dominating draft boards, rankings and projections, the 45-year-old Brady is the one guy who just stands in the pocket and picks apart defenses and still dishes out ridiculous fantasy production. In 2021, he averaged nearly 27.0 fantasy points per game by leading the NFL in attempts (719), completions (485), passing yards (5316), and touchdown passes (43). The previous season, he ranked 10th in fantasy points per game (25.6) and has averaged at least 20.0 fantasy points per game every season since 2014.

The truth is, as expected, this Buccaneers offense has worked its' way more towards Brady's favored ball-control passing game than Bruce Arians' "no risk it, no biscuit" attack, which never played to the quarterback's strengths. That may explain in part why Todd Bowles is now the Bucs' head coach. But that has caused some concern among fantasy owners as well. Bowles, like all coaches who come from the defensive side of the ball, loves a strong running game. Not to worry, though. Brady's accuracy and efficiency in the short to intermediate passing game really serves as an extension of the running game. Brady dominated the fantasy rankings last season with a 102.1 QB rating (7th among NFL starters) while averaging just 7.4 yards per attempt (12th among league qualifiers).

Looking forward, Gronk has called it quits and Antonio Brown is off doing his thing (whatever that is) somewhere else. But Brady still has Mike Evans, Russell Gage has joined the fray as a free agent, Scotty Miller, Breshad Perriman, and Cyril Grayson are all capable targets who have the ability to flash, TE Cameron Brate is an underrated receiver who will get his first real shot as a full-time starter and can be a moneymaker in the red zone, RB Leonard Fournette is coming off 69 receptions a year ago (3rd amongst NFL RB's), and Giovai Bernard has receiving skills and could get a bigger role with the departure of Ronald Jones. Then, later in the season, Chris Godwin should return to the lineup after recovering from his ACL injury suffered late last season.

It all adds up to one thing. Brady is a top 5 QB1 candidate.

Tampa Bay signs veteran WR Cole Beasley
Headed to the practice squad
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Sep 20, 7:44 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Confirmed Bucs are signing Bills WR Cole Beasley to their practice squad. Julio Jones and Chris Godwin are injured while Mike Evans is suspended. Another vet receiver for Tom Brady, who was upset at some dropped passes Sunday, not all by receivers. @MikeGarafolo reported first. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It's interesting to note that Beasley will begin on the practice squad. The team can elevate him on gameday's without having to cut somebody right now. It's doubtful Beasley is going to make any kind of immediate fantasy impact but something to keep your eye on. Scotty Miller may be the odd man out here.

Injury Chris Godwin a gametime decision
Wearing a no-contact jersey on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 9, 12:29 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Coach Todd Bowles said the decision on Chris Godwin will come right up until kickoff. (Jenna Laine on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Quite frankly, Godwin doesn't seem ready to play. He hasn't taken a hit in practice this pre-season. It would be a shock if he's isn't on the Inactive list on Sunday. Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Julio Jones should be the top three wideouts for Tom Brady against the Cowboys.

Tom Brady expected to return to the Bucs this week
Team scheduled to practice on Monday
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 21, 12:02 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Todd Bowles reiterates Tom Brady will be back this week, but won't say anything more specific. "Early" this week, he says. Brady did not play in Tampa Bay’s preseason opener against the Dolphins, and it is not yet known if he will play in the preseason finale against Indianapolis. (Greg Auman on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Brady's been absent for personal reasons for the last couple weeks. For what exact reason we do not know. It's never good for the team's starting quarterback to miss this much practice time in the middle camp but Brady's certainly one player that can overcome the absence.

No date for Tom Brady's return set yet
GOAT's status not an issue, is it?
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Thu Aug 18, 7:00 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Greg Auman (@gregauman) tweets: "Todd Bowles on Tom Brady’s return: “We’ll see. We’ll talk about it next week. I’m not concerned about it right now. We’re trying to practice against Tennessee and play a game. I said sometime after Tennessee. There’s no definitive date for me. We’ll keep in touch and find out.” (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Brady is a weird guy, but we're still assuming he'll get together with the team soon and start readying to play football. The fantasy needle stays pretty much put pinned somewhere in that second tier for 2022.

Julio Jones signs one-year deal with Tampa Bay
33-year-old veteran WR finds a home
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 26, 4:28 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones is signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per source. The soon-to-be 45-year Tom Brady now will have a chance to throw to the 33-year-old Jones. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Schefter also reports that the Packers were interested but the Bucs were more aggressive in their offer. Jones has played in 19 games the last two seasons and more often than not, seems to be laboring in games he does play. That said, the landing spot is ideal especial with Chris Godwin (knee) availability for the start of the season in limbo. Julio will likely catch some WR3 value in drafts over the next couple of weeks.
