2023 Outlook
Depth Chart
Thanks to some ill-timed sports bets, Williams is going to have to wait six games before he can make the impact that he, and the Lions hope he is capable of. Rehabbing off a torn ACL last season, Williams didn't make his NFL debut until Week 13. In the six games he played, he had two touches, but he certainly made the most of them, hauling in a 41-yard bomb for a touchdown, and burning the defense on a 40-yard rush. It's a bit odd that Williams had zero impact upon returning, but this coaching staff values preparation more than anything, and likely felt giving Williams a bigger role was unwarranted considering his return from injury, and the absolute roll the offense was on at the time.

Obviously, the suspension saps a large chunk of fantasy value from Williams this season, but he was never going to be a big receptions guy early in his career. My bigger concern comes from his clear lack of maturity and awareness off the field. Blessed with unlimited physical gifts, the gambling situation, and several social media posts show he has a long way to go to be a professional. After a lost first season, and now a 2nd season impacted, Williams will be under heavy pressure to produce when he returns. But what if Detroit is humming along again? I'm willing to take an end of the draft flier on his talent alone, but I'm really uncertain he's even worth the stash if your league has a shallow bench.

Limited role expected to WR Jameson Williams
Lions thin at wide receiver
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 8, 7:05 am

Detroit Lions
#Lions WR Jameson Williams is expected to play a limited role - maybe around 20 snaps - in his return from suspension today vs. Carolina, per sources. They’ll ease him back in on a day RB Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (abdomen) aren’t expected to play. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: Despite being thin at WR this week, the Lions will play it safe with Williams as returns from a long absence. Expect Josh Reynolds, Kalif Raymond and Marvin Jones to do the heavy lifting from the wideout group.

Injury Jahmyr Gibbs dowgraded to doubtful for Week 5
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 7, 4:11 pm

Detroit Lions
Lions downgraded RB Jahmyr Gibbs to doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers. Lions also activated WR Jameson Williams from Exempt/Commissioner Permission and he is on track to make his season debut Sunday vs. Carolina. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Late-week injuries are never a good sign. With Gibbs out of action, David Montgomery will continue to be a workhorse and is an easy RB1 against the Panthers. Craig Reynolds should step into the No.2 role but isn't really fantasy viable.

Injury Amon-Ra St. Brown won't practice Friday, status unclear
Abdomen injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 6, 11:23 am

Detroit Lions
Lions’ HC Dan Campbell said WR Amon-Ra St. Brown will not practice again today due to his abdomen injury and the team expects to know more about his status for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers in the next 24 hours. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: This doesn't sound promising for the Lions leading receiver. Should he sit, it's doesn't seem likely that Jameson Williams will be thrust into a big role, rather the other pass-catchers would soak up ASB's targets.

Jameson Williams back with the Lions on Monday
Suspension reduced to 4 games
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 29, 3:28 pm

Detroit Lions
As a result of gambling policy changes, Titans’ OT Nick Petit-Frere and Lions’ WR Jameson Williams will be reinstated effective on Monday. They each had served four game suspensions for violations of the league’s gambling policy. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Surprise! The NFL and Players Union updated their agreement on the gambling policy which resulted in Williams' suspension being reduced to 4 games. He'll be eligible to play for the Lions is Week 5. Josh Reynolds has looked good in the No.2 role for the Lions so we'll have to how Williams gets incorporated into an offense that already has plenty of mouths to feed at WR, RB and TE.
