As with many of LA's skill players, Williams' season was undermined by injuries. First, he broke his foot during the offseason. Then, he sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 1 that landed him on IR. He got his first NFL carry on Nov. 13 and saw a combined 44 touches over the final eight weeks, so he enters his sophomore campaign very much an unknown at the NFL level.
He'll face camp challenges from veteran Sony Michel, who led the Rams in rushing in 2021 and was recently re-signed, and sixth-round pick Zach Evans. Whoever emerges from that as the backup would be a watch-list addition or maybe even a late-round stash in deeper leagues given Akers' spotty history and pending free-agent status that could lead to LA entertaining trade offers once again. For now, it appears Williams has an early advantage.

Tyler Higbee listed as Doubtful for Week 14 Neck injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 8, 4:13 pm

| | Rams TE Tyler Higbee (neck stinger) is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game. Quentin Lake (hamstring), Mike Hoecht (knee) and Byron Young (knee) are questionable but indication from McVay to reporters was he thinks all will go, barring a setback. They’ll be careful with Lake. (Jourdan Rodrigue on X)
FFToday's Take: Matthew Stafford will be without one of his weapons this week against the Ravens. Expect a lot of Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp on offense for the Rams.

| Kyren Williams expected to return in Week 12 Rams also part with Darrell Henderson By: Doug Orth | Tue Nov 21, 9:50 pm

| | Sean McVay said the Rams will get RB Kyren Williams back against the Cardinals. He's been on IR with an ankle injury. (ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop)
FFToday's Take: Darrell Henderson was waived Tuesday afternoon, suggesting the Rams are confident in his recovery. Williams was a fantasy darling before getting hurt, operating as the overall RB4 in fantasy through six weeks. The former fifth-round pick got by on volume when he was healthy, averaging about 18.5 touches per game. It remains to be seen if McVay saw enough from Royce Freeman over the last month to use the two in a committee moving forward or if Williams will be featured again in short order.

| Kyren Williams not expected to play in Week 7 Sprained ankle in Week 6 vs. Cardinals By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 16, 5:05 pm

| | An MRI on Monday revealed that Rams running back Kyren Williams has a sprained ankle that is expected to sideline him for Sunday's game against the Steelers but is not considered a long-term injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Williams' backup, Ronnie Rivers, injured his knee early in the second half of Sunday's game. If he can't play against the Steelers, rookie sixth-round pick Zach Evans would likely get the start at running back.
(ESPN.com - Sarah Barshop)
FFToday's Take: The running back position seems to be falling like flies this season. Williams rushed for a career-high 158 yards and a touchdown in Week 6, but it appears he won't be able to suit up against the Steelers' somewhat forgiving run defense. If Rivers cannot go, it appears Evans will have his first real opportunity to prove why he warrants more work. More than likely, however, the Rams will lean more heavily on Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua against Pittsburgh.

| Cam Akers on the trading block? Rams RB Inactive in Week 2 By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 18, 10:17 am

| | The #Rams have had trade talks centered around RB Cam Akers. The starter in Week 1 was inactive for Week 2 after a difficult week of practice. Kyren Williams is now the starter, and Akers’ spot is up in the air. Sean McVay: "I think there is going to be an opportunity to see what that looks like moving forward, but it’s not going to be a back-and-forth thing." (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: This is very vague but it's obvious there is an issue going on between Akers and the team. Whether of not it results and trade or Akers returning to the active list remains to be seen. Kyren Williams was the lead back for the Rams in Week 2 and got the bulk of the work, with Ronnie Rivers filling in as a backup. Williams represents an mid-range RB2 as long as he keeps this role.
