Isaac Guerendo unlikely to play in Week 16 Hamstring injury By: Mike Krueger | Thu Dec 19, 12:05 pm

After losing RBs Christian McCaffrey, Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell to season-ending injuries, it now looks as if the 49ers will be without RB Isaac Guerendo for Sunday’s game vs. Miami. Guerendo is dealing with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play, per source. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: The 49ers suffer yet another injury at the running back position. Patrick Taylor is next up on the depth chart and should get the bulk of work against the Dolphins. Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda are also on the roster but haven't been with the team for very long. Taylor is an acceptable Flex option in Week 16.

CMC, Jordan Mason land on injured reserve 49ers top two backs likely out for the season By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 2, 8:00 pm

Kyle Shanahan said that Christian McCaffrey did injure his PCL and it is a 6-week recovery. His season now looks like it’s over.

FFToday's Take: The news on McCaffrey was somewhat expected given how he fell on his final carry in Week 13. The news on Mason was a shocker since it was assumed he was pulled late due to the uncompetitive nature of the game. This leaves Isaac Guerendo as the next man up for the 49ers. While fantasy managers are certain to go head over heels for the rookie on waivers this week, it is important to note it has been a couple of months since a San Francisco running back has topped 20 PPR points. Guerendo should be considered a regular fantasy starter moving forward, but it might be a bit much to place the potential "league-winner" title on him - especially if LT Trent Williams (ankle) continues to miss time.

Season-ending knee injury feared for Christian McCaffrey PCL injury By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 1, 11:34 pm
| |
49ers RB Christian McCaffrey suffered a potentially season-ending PCL injury, Kyle Shanahan announced in the team's postgame presser. (ESPN)
FFToday's Take: It's been a rough season on the injury front for McCaffrey and the 49ers as a team. We'll have to wait for more news, but the expectation is that this will put an end to McCaffrey's season. If so, expect San Francisco to move forward with Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo at running back. Mason will be a weekly RB2 and should be owned in every league.

Christian McCaffrey expected to play Week 10 limited in practice By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 7, 6:34 pm
| |
"He's been awesome these last 2 days. Hopefully that continues to go well. I expect to get him out there." - Kyle Shanahan on Christian McCaffrey's status for Sunday (Via Tolbert & Copes) (KNBR on X)
FFToday's Take: McCaffrey has been listed as limited in practice the last two days but it sounds like he's trending towards paying against Tampa Bay in Week 10. How much work he will get is still in question but if he's on the field, fantasy owners should get him in their lineup. Jordan Mason (shoulder) was limited in practice on Thursday as was Deebo Samuel (ribs).

Jordan Mason off the injury report, will play in Week 7 Shoulder injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 18, 5:04 pm
| |
RB Jordan Mason (shoulder) is full go for Sunday’s game. WR Jauan Jennings (hip) is OUT. (Matt Barrows on X)
FFToday's Take: Mason injured his shoulder against the Seahawks in Week 6 but has had a few extra days to recover given that game on Thursday of last week. The matchup for Mason this week is rough, as the Chiefs have given up the fewest fantasy points to running backs. Still, given the expected volume, Mason projections as a low-end RB2.

Christian McCaffrey will not play in Week 6 RB continues to "push" rehab on Achilles tendinitis By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 7, 11:00 pm
| |
RB Christian McCaffrey also will remain on injured reserve and not be available for the team’s game on Thursday.
McCaffrey has not played this season due to Achilles tendinitis in both legs.
“(McCaffrey will) continue his rehab,” Shanahan said. “Every day you try to push the rehab more and more.”
(NBC Sports Bay Area)
FFToday's Take: McCaffrey has not played all season, so he wasn't going to make his season debut on a short week. He also has not practiced since early August, so a return in Week 7 seems unlikely as well. With that said, there seems to be cautious optimism that he will return no later than Week 10. It is difficult to assess whether McCaffrey is a good trade target at this point and it seems extremely unlikely the 49ers will ask him to carry a heavy workload anytime before December. As such, Jordan Mason's value should remain high all season.
