In an offense that primarily features the rushing attack and has a target hog in Michael Pittman Jr., it's hard for a secondary receiver to carve out a fantasy-relevant role.
Regardless, Josh Downs' rookie season should be regarded as a success. He established himself as the Colts' primary slot receiver, a role he will reprise in 2024. He was a full-time player for the vast majority of the season and was able to earn his fair share of targets with 6-plus in eight games.
Downs showed flashes of true talent in his rookie campaign. At a WR62 price tag, he is an interesting late-round swing given his full-time role and opportunity to grow as a talent. However, expectations should be realistic. Flex-level production would be a big win for Downs.

Joe Flacco will start for Indianapolis in Week 18 Anthony Richardson ruled Out with back injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 3, 1:08 pm

| | Colts ruled out QB Anthony Richardson for Sunday’s regular-season finale vs. the Jaguars due to his back injury. One final start this season for Colts QB Joe Flacco. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Flacco will once again give some fantasy life to wide receivers Josh Downs and Michael Pittman Jr. Last week, Pittman finished with a 9-109-1 line on 10 targets against the Giants. The Jaguars have given up the 4th most fantasy points to QBs, and the 7th most fantasy points to wide receivers in half-PPR leagues.

| Anthony Richardson misses all week, Questionable Back and Foot injuries By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 27, 1:06 pm

| | Colts HC Shane Steichen: QB Anthony Richardson (back/foot) questionable vs. Giants. 'We'll see how next 48 hours go.' Did not practice this week. (Mike Chappell on X)
FFToday's Take: Sounds like Richardson is truly questionable to play this week against the Giants. If he sits, Joe Flacco would get the start which would be a boost for the fantasy values of Josh Downs and Michael Pittman Jr. We should get more info on Richardson's status over the weekend.

| Josh Downs unlikely to play in Week 13 Considered week-to-week with shoulder injury By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 25, 7:10 pm

| | #Colts WR Josh Downs, who left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury, is considered week-to-week and is a long-shot to play on Sunday against the #Patriots, source said. But the belief is he did not suffer a major injury. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)
FFToday's Take: One major factor in this decision could be the Colts' belief that they can beat the Patriots without Downs. Another factor is that Indy's bye is in Week 14, which should be enough time for most non-major shoulder injuries to heal. Expect the Colts to rely heavily on Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr. on the rare occasion Anthony Richardson drops back to pass.
