2024 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Chiefs entered 2023 hoping one of several young receivers on their roster would step up. Only one did. That was Rice, who simply continued to make plays when given the chance and saw his role steadily expand. Over the final six games, the then-rookie caught 43 passes for 518 yards and three TDs, becoming the clear go-to target on the outside. For the season, he finished with a 79-938-7 line, leading the club in touchdowns and finishing second to Travis Kelce in receptions and yards.

Even with the offseason additions, Rice looks set to be the No. 1 receiver in Kansas City. Unfortunately, the second-year pro has introduced an element of uncertainty into the equation as he is facing felony charges stemming from a multi-vehicle crash. No discipline has been announced by the NFL to date, but the team is reportedly expecting a multi-game suspension that will take Rice off the field to open the season. Once the duration is known, his value will crystallize further. For now, he should be viewed as a strong WR3 and possible top-25 fantasy wideout.

News From The Past 90 Days
Chiefs-Titans working on trade for DeAndre Hopkins
Titans will receive a conditional fourth-round pick
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 23, 6:55 am

Kansas City Chiefs
The Titans and Chiefs are working to finalize a trade that would send wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Kansas City, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Titans would receive a conditional fourth-round pick in a trade that is expected to be completed Wednesday, sources said. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Chiefs are in dire need of a receiver after losing Marquise Brown (shoulder), Rashee Rice (knee) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring) this season. Hopkins will try and get up to speed quickly and likely be on the field this weekend in a limited role against the Raiders. Once he gets up to speed, he'll likely be a weekly Flex option in most 12-team fantasy leagues.

Injury Rashee Rice undergoes LCL surgery
Typical recovery makes regular-season return unlikely
By: Doug Orth | Tue Oct 8, 6:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Good news for Rashee Rice following surgery, as the ACL, meniscus, and MCL didn’t need to be repaired. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)

FFToday's Take: The typical timeline for a return to action following LCL surgery is four to six months, which likely ends any hope he will return during the regular season. With that said, no official timeline has been given yet. JuJu Smith-Schuster played very well in the team's Week 5 victory and should be one of the most sought-after adds off the waiver wire this week.

Injury Marquise Brown headed to IR, Surgery needed
Out at least 4 weeks, likely more
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 13, 11:18 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Sources: The #Chiefs are placing WR Marquise Brown on IR, and he will undergo surgery to repair his dislocated SC joint. After multiple imaging studies, it was determined that, although Hollywood felt better, his injury was not healing correctly. Without corrective surgery, he would risk a more serious long-term injury. The surgery is scheduled for Monday with Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, CO, and the Chiefs will monitor his rehab progress throughout the season. (Jordan Schultz on X)

FFToday's Take: Not great. We were originally expecting Brown to return in Week 3 but now the Chiefs must rely on rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson as the starters opposite Rashee Rice. It's unclear how quickly he can return but the earliest would be Week 7 against the 49ers as the Chiefs have a bye in Week 6. It's also an option that he won't see the field this season. Worthy is solidified as a weekly Flex option with this news.

Chiefs bring back WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
End of the road for Kadarius Toney?
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 26, 9:00 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Reunion: Veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is signing with the #Chiefs, per source. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: This signing is likely for a minimum contract and does raise some concern around a potential suspension for Rashee Rice. But, we have no news on that at the moment. This move also likely signals the end of the road for Kadarius Toney in Kansas City, but we'll get confirmation on that as the NFL trims their rosters by 3 PM tomorrow. JuJu isn't likely to have much fantasy impact behind Rice, Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.

Injury Marquise Brown discharged from hospital, shoulder injury
Expected to miss some time
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 11, 9:46 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs WR Marquise Brown, who suffered a dislocation of his sternoclavicular shoulder joint Saturday night, was discharged from a Jacksonville-area hospital this morning and now has been cleared to return to Kansas City. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Brown is expected to miss "some time" according to head coach Andy Reid. Former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill missed four weeks back in 2019 with a similar injury. Fantasy owners should be prepared for Brown to miss a couple games to start the season. We should see the fantasy stock of Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy rise over the next few weeks.
