Anthony Richardson proves to be one of the most intriguing and polarizing options at quarterback in 2024. He played just two full games last season, scoring 21.9 and 29.6 points in these contents. He also appeared in two additional games but played less than 40 percent of snaps. In one of these games, he managed to score 17.7 points on just 18 offensive snaps. Truly absurd.
Richardson now comes off the board as the QB5. His ADP is almost exactly in line with fellow sophomore QB C.J. Stroud, so Richardson can often be scooped up as the QB6.
We know what we're getting with Richardson when he's on the field. He's is far from a high-quality passer, finishing his rookie season with a 59.5 completion percentage. With Richardson, inefficient passing truly doesn't matter from a fantasy perspective. In his two full starts, he had 40+ rushing yards and found the endzone in both games.
We know that having rushing ability at QB provides a massive edge. Richardson has the ability and willingness to tack on 50+ rushing yards in any given week. He also has the frame to be used as a battering ram at the goal-line. With this skill set, a season with 600-plus rushing yards and 10+ TDs on the ground is very realistic.
Richardson is one of a handful of QBs who can truly finish as the QB1. The only real question is, can he stay healthy? I am willing to take this bet every time and love grabbing Richardson in drafts.

QB switch: Colts going back to Anthony Richardson Flacco got two starts By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 13, 11:33 am
| | Shane Steichen says Anthony Richardson has regained the starting QB job. He'll play Sunday against the Jets and be the starter moving forward. #Colts (George Bremer on X)
FFToday's Take: Joe Flacco got the call in Week 9 taking over Richardson who has largely been ineffective this season. The Colts lost both games Flacoo started and now it's time to turn back to Richardson in hopes he can continue his development into a competent quarterback. In the short term, this move hurts the fantasy value of Josh Downs as Richardson has yet to display the passing skills to deliver consistent fantasy value to his wide receivers.
| Anthony Richardson benched Joe Flacco set to take over for the foreseeable future By: Doug Orth | Tue Oct 29, 10:00 pm
| | A QB change for the Colts: Indianapolis is benching former first-round pick Anthony Richardson and turning to veteran Joe Flacco, sources tell @FowlerESPN and me. Coaches met this morning and made the seismic organizational decision to change QBs. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: Once HC Shane Steichen said everything was being evaluated, it felt like it was only a matter of time before the Colts made this change. Regardless of whether the move is the right thing for Richardson's future, there is little question fantasy managers of Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs are giddy. In the three games Flacco has logged significant snaps this season, Pittman is averaging 14.8 PPR fantasy points (6.3 with Richardson) while Downs is averaging 19.2 (9.6). Flacco is a very solid QB2 option with QB1 upside for however long he is the starter.
| Anthony Richardson may not start in Week 9 HC: "We're evaluating everything." By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 28, 7:00 pm
| | Colts HC Shane Steichen was asked directly if QB Anthony Richardson will start Sunday against the #Vikings and he was noncommittal:
"We're evaluating everything." (The Athletic - James Boyd)
FFToday's Take: Richardson finished 10-of-32 for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Week 8, which falls in line with most of his box scores this season. Much as has been the case all season, he wasn't nearly as inaccurate as his final line suggests and didn't get a lot of help from his teammates in some critical situations. With that said, HC Shane Steichen has already seen plenty of proof that the offense works much better with Joe Flacco right now. Consider Richardson's status as a 50-50 proposition heading into Week 9 against the Vikings.
| Joe Flacco will start for the Colts in Week 6 Anthony Richardson will be emergency QB By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 13, 11:27 am
| | Sources: Joe Flacco will start for the #Colts today at Tennessee.
Anthony Richardson (oblique) practiced all week and will serve as the emergency No. 3 QB. He could play if needed. But they want to give him another week. So, Flacco gets the ball again. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Richardson got in one full practice this week (Thursday) but ultimately the team decided to give him one more week of rest. Flacco at quarterback, gives a bump for Josh Downs and even Michael Pittman Jr. who has decided to try and play through his back injury.
| Michael Pittman Jr. out multiple weeks with back injury Colts injuries are mounting By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 9, 5:38 pm
| | Colts WR Michael Pittman Jr. is dealing with a back injury that is now expected to sideline him multiple weeks, per sources. Injured reserve is an option. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: The Colts are dealing with injuries to Anthony Richardson, Jonathan Taylor and now Pittman heading into Week 6. Josh Downs (toe) missed practice on Wednesday, rookie Adonai Mitchell and Alec Pierce are likely to be the top three receivers while Pittman is out. Assuming he plays, and Joe Flacco starts at QB, Downs is an easy WR2 this week against the Titans.
| Anthony Richardson downgraded to Doubtful for Week 5 Joe Flacco expected to start By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 5, 1:39 pm
| | The #Colts downgraded Anthony Richardson to doubtful. Joe Flacco in line to start Sunday vs. Jacksonville. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Richardson (oblique) got in limited practices all week but he didn't do much on Friday. Flacco at QB gives life to Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs who both saw a 32% target share last week with Flacco playing most of the game. The Jaguars have given up the 5th most fantasy points to receivers this season.
| Anthony Richardson considered day-to-day Oblique and abdominal strains By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 30, 11:50 pm
| | Colts QB Anthony Richardson is considered day to day with oblique and abdominal strains, and he has a shot to play this week against the #Jaguars, sources said after today’s tests.
Good news overall after Richardson left Sunday’s win. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)
FFToday's Take: The good news is that the toughest part of Richardson's schedule should be finished. The bad news is he will begin the second quarter of it at less than 100 percent. Richardson has been a disappointment overall fantasy, but October should tell us more about him than September did. There is a distinct possibility if Richardson plays in Week 5, he will do so without Jonathan Taylor (ankle). It might be just what he needs for him to show himself and HC Shane Steichen that he can put the team on his shoulders. If Richardson cannot play in Week 5, however, Joe Flacco is worth a spot start in deeper leagues.
