2024 Outlook
Depth Chart
Part of Carolina's revamped arsenal is rookie running back Jonathon Brooks. A former Texas Longhorn, Brooks was selected in Round 2 of this year's draft. Brooks is an intriguing prospect and would have likely been a first-round talent if it were not for an ACL tear that he suffered last season. At this point, Brooks is expected to make a full recovery and should participate in the majority of training camp.

Brooks is by far the most intriguing talent in this backfield. He is a dynamic, athletic player and assuming he can return to form, he provides this Carolina offense with a skillset that no other running back can. It would be shocking if Brooks is not the RB1 by season's end.

Earning the RB1 role in a Dave Canales offense is incredibly lucrative for fantasy football. This was put on display in Tampa Bay last season (Canales was the Buccaneers' OC), where Rachaad White was a true bell-cow and saw 336 touches.

If there is anyone who will take on the full workload in this backfield, it's Brooks. With the talent he displayed at Texas, he can deliver some big-time fantasy performances with a solid workload. At a price of RB22, I am interested in betting on Brooks' talent and chances to see big volume down the stretch.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Jonathon Brooks likely to debut in Week 12
Activated off IR before Week 10 but was inactive for game
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 18, 4:30 pm

Carolina Panthers
Panthers HC Dave Canales told reporters that rookie second-round pick Jonathon Brooks is expected to make his debut Sunday vs. the Chiefs. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: The Panthers have slow-played Brooks more than anyone could have imagined before the season, but it appears he will get his first NFL touch at some point in Week 12. Unfortunately for him and his fantasy owners, it seems extremely likely he will begin his NFL career operating as a clear backup to Chuba Hubbard, who signed a rich extension about two weeks ago. Fantasy managers feeling the bye week pinch can use Brooks as a desperation flex option, but it is likely his Week 12 ceiling will be 8-10 touches against a very good run defense.

Injury Jonathon Brooks to practice this week
Rookie RB has missed all season with torn ACL

Carolina Panthers
Panthers plan to open the 21-day window for RB Jonathon Brooks to return, per Dave Canales. (ESPN.com - David Newton)

FFToday's Take: While the news is great for Brooks' patient fantasy managers, there are some things to consider. Brooks has yet to practice with the team in any official capacity since he tore his ACL last November. The Panthers have three weeks to activate him from the day they officially open his window, meaning we might not see him until around Week 10. The biggest issue may be that Chuba Hubbard has run extremely well in his absence, so there is a distinct possibility the two might end up splitting work when Brooks is ready to roll.

Injury Jonathon Brooks not quite ready to practice yet
RB in final stages of recovery from ACL surgery
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 30, 5:30 pm

Carolina Panthers
Panthers RB Jonathon Brooks is in the final stages of returning from a torn ACL last November but the team doesn't plan to open his 21-day practice window this week. (ESPN.com - David Newton)

FFToday's Take: It would appear that we are probably about a month away from Brooks making his NFL debut, as it seems unlikely the Panthers will not use most of the 21-day window to complete his recovery and work on his overall conditioning. Chuba Hubbard is coming off consecutive 100-yard games as well, which only decreases any urgency of rushing Brooks back. Fantasy managers should not be surprised either if Carolina asks Brooks and Hubbard to share the load for the first few weeks upon his return.
