Kansas City bringing back Kareem Hunt Champs add former Chief to help replace Isiah Pacheco By: Doug Orth | Tue Sep 17, 5:30 pm
| | Reunion: Veteran RB Kareem Hunt is signing with the #Chiefs practice squad, per source.
After the injury to Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City brought in Hunt - the team’s 2017 third-round pick - for a workout. He should have a chance to play soon. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)
FFToday's Take: While reunions with a team's former standout is almost always noteworthy, the 29-year-old Hunt has not been a good running back in either of the last two seasons behind what was a good offensive line in Cleveland. Hunt's arrival and eventual addition to the active roster figures to make it tough for fantasy managers to place any trust in Carson Steele and Samaje Perine while Pacheco is out. There is also a chance Clyde Edwards-Helaire joins the fray at some point, which could make this whole backfield almost useless from a fantasy perspective. For what it is worth, Hunt will likely be little more than insurance - probably stealing no more than five touches per game - while Pacheco is out.
| Fractured fibula for Isiah Pacheco, headed for IR Chiefs thin at running back By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 16, 9:35 am
| | From @GMFB: #Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco suffered a fractured fibula and will likely be placed on Injured Reserve. More information coming to determine severity and associated damage, but Pacheco is set to miss real time. (Ian Rapoport on X)
FFToday's Take: The Chiefs have lost Marquise Brown for the season and are now set to be without their main running back for multiple weeks. Carson Steele and Samaje Perine are next up but expect the Chiefs to make a move at the position, perhaps reuniting with Jerick McKinnon who is a free agent. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is on IR and out at least through Week 4.
| RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire out 4 games, NFL list Chiefs RB battled PTSD during camp By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 2, 11:25 am
| | The #Chiefs have placed RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Clyde on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list. He’s out the first four games. (Ian Rapoport on X)
FFToday's Take: CEH has experienced symptoms of PTSD during camp this Summer, stemming from a self-defense incident back in 2018. His absence will vault Samaje Perine and Carson Steele into bigger roles early in the season. It's likely Andy Reid will want Perine to take on as much of the work as he can handle, but for now, Isaiah Pacheco figures to be rock solid RB1 the first few weeks of the season.
| RB Samaje Perine to sign with Chiefs Help on 3rd downs By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 28, 1:27 pm
| | The #Chiefs are signing veteran RB Samaje Perine to their active roster, sources tell me and @RapSheet. (Mike Garafolo on X)
FFToday's Take: The Chiefs will now have a combination of Perine, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Carson Steele behind starter Isiah Pacheco. Perine was somewhat of a third-down specialist for the Broncos last season, posting a 50-455-0 line through the air. A similar role could be awaiting in Kansas City. All three of the Chiefs backup running backs are not worth drafting in most leagues. A committee approach will be taken if something happens to Pacheco.
