Brees was actually the 6th-ranked quarterback in 2019 according to fantasy points scored per game (23.9) tied with Russell Wilson. His rank was pushed down because of time missed due to a broken hand. He was remarkably efficient, completing 74.3% of his passes (after completing 74.4% in 2018). He also had an impressive 7.1% touchdown rate and continued to avoid interceptions, throwing only 4 in 378 attempts.
Brees may not have as big of an arm at 41 years old as he did when he was younger, but that has not stopped him from being effective. He had the Saints within a whisper of the Super Bowl, and with an overall great roster and the coaching staff intact, they have another good shot to get there this season.
The Saints' offensive line has been a strength, and they drafted Cesar Ruiz in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Ruiz could start at center or guard and likely replace Larry Warford in the starting lineup, who was released this offseason. The unit does a good job of keeping Brees from getting hit. In addition to that potential upgrade, the receiving corps added Emmanuel Sanders, who could be the long-needed second option at the position. This should help Brees not depend so heavily on Michael Thomas and simply find the open man - which could lead to an even better 2020 season.
The biggest red flag when it comes to Brees is his age, and all indications are that this is his final season under center. If his body breaks down, or if the Saints decide to use Taysom Hill more in 2020, that could hurt Brees statistically. But in all likelihood, he will be a steady, reliable option once again.

Saints want Jameis Winston back Sean Payton indicates they'll make a run at Winston in free agency By: Mike Krueger | Wed Feb 3, 9:30 am

| | #Saints coach Sean Payton makes clear the team wants Jameis Winston back. They didn’t call on new #Rams QB Matthew Stafford, another potential vote of confidence for his current QBs. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Winston is a free agent but Sean Peyton indicated on Good Morning Football that they will pursue the 27 year-old quarterback. Winston did not start any games for the Saints in 2020 despite Drew Brees missing four games with a rib injury. Taysom Hill will be in the mix but there's a real chance Winston could be the Saints starter in 2021.

| Michael Thomas expected to have surgery Shoulder and ankle By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jan 19, 10:57 am

| | Saints’ WR Michael Thomas is likely to have surgeries on both the torn deltoid and other injured ligaments in his high ankle this offseason, per source. He knew it was likely Drew Brees’ last year and didn’t want to miss out trying win a Super Bowl with him. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Thomas was an injury bust in 2020 dealing with ankle and hamstring problems most of the season. He only played in 7 regular season games and posted a goose egg in last week's playoff game against the Bucs. With Drew Brees headed towards retirement it likely we'll see Thomas' 2021 ADP a couple rounds lower than his 1.07 ADP in 2020.

| Saints rule out Michael Thomas Missed practice all week with ankle injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 18, 4:03 pm

| | Saints’ ruled out WR Michael Thomas for Sunday’s game vs. the Chiefs. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: This is a significant blow to the Saints offense and to Thomas' fantasy owners. Expect Alvin Kamara to soak up targets from Drew Brees along with increased work for Emmanuel Sanders and tight end Jared Cook. The Chiefs have given up the 7th most fantasy points to tight ends.

| Drew Brees will start for the Saints against KC Rib injury By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 18, 9:38 am

| | Drew Brees will be the Saints’ starting QB Sunday vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, source tells ESPN. Saints believe he is fully healthy and doctors have cleared him to play. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Shefter goes on to say that Jameis Winston will be the backup quarterback with Taysom Hill playing his typical swiss army knife role. This move does help the fantasy floors of Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas and Jared Cook in what should be a high-scoring game against the Chiefs. Brees checks in as a solid QB2 with low-end QB1 upside.

| Drew Brees remains without a timetable for return Eligible to return from IR after missing last three games By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 7, 6:45 pm

| | Sean Payton on Drew Brees status: “I honestly wouldn't be able to give you a time frame. He’s like a handful of the other guys that are down there working their tails off to get back healthy, 100% and we'll kind of see when that is.” (The Athletic - Katherine Terrell)
FFToday's Take: Brees can return this week, but it is anyone's guess how quickly a 41-year-old man can be expected to fully recover from 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. The Saints are holding onto the No. 1 seed in the NFC with relative ease without him, going 3-0 with Taysom Hill under center. Fantasy owners of Alvin Kamara and Jared Cook would like to see Brees return sooner than later, but it appears they may have to wait at least one more week.
