Washington expected to cut Alex Smith
QB still wants to play
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Mar 1, 10:18 am

Washington Redskins
The Washington Football Team is expected to part ways with QB Alex Smith in the coming days, sources tell me and @KimJonesSports. The AP Comeback Player of the Year has said he still wants to play, and at age 36 may have a chance to do so. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Smith made a remarkable recovery from his gruesome leg injury in 2018 and managed to see the field for eight games in 2020. His release saves Washington $14.7 million in cap space and makes them one of many teams looking for a starting quarterback in 2021.

Injury Washington QB decision yet to be made
May not know until early afternoon
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Jan 9, 9:08 am

Washington Redskins
Still no QB decision. Which is telling. Might not fully know until early afternoon. See if Smith is feeling any better. Again: losing one day impacts. Stay tuned. (John Keim on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It was obvious last week that Alex Smith (calf) was limited in his mobility. Head coach Ron Rivera indicated earlier this week that Smith and Taylor Heinicke could both play in the game. Smith was limited in practice this week with Heinicke taking the majority of first team reps.

Washington says bye-bye to Dwayne Haskins
QB released after two seasons
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 28, 12:44 pm

Washington Redskins
Washington waived QB Dwayne Haskins. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: In a statement, head coach Ron Rivera stated: “I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways.” Washington drafted Haskins in the first round (15th overall) in the 2019 draft. After two seasons, he's been released. This move indicates Alex Smith will be ready to play in Week 17 against the Eagles.

Injury Antonio Gibson expected to play
Toe injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 27, 7:00 am

Washington Redskins
Washington RB Antonio Gibson, listed as questionable for Sunday with an ankle injury, is expected to play vs. the Panthers, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Even playing at less than 100 percent, Gibson could be in for a big workload considering Washington will be without it's top receiving in Terry McLaurin. They're still mum on which QB (Alex Smith or Dwayne Haskins) will get the start. Carolina is a plus matchup for running backs, giving up the 7th most fantasy points to the position.

Injury Terry McLaurin Doubtful, Alex Smith Questionable
Smith was a full participant on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 25, 1:01 pm

Washington Redskins
Alex Smith a full participant today. Good step for him. Heard last night optimism remained. How much? Don’t know. Listed as questionable so we’ll see where it goes. Having Terry McLaurin a doubtful is obviously a bad sign. Has been dealing with the ankle issue for a while. (John Keim on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It was encouraging to see Smith get in a full practice today. Washington will likely make a decision on their starting QB tomorrow. With McLaurin out, Washington will be lacking playmakers at the receiver position. Expect TE Logan Thomas and RB J.D. McKissic to see the bulk of targets.

Injury Dwayne Haskins taking starter reps at practice
Trending towards being the starting QB in Week 16
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Dec 24, 1:25 pm

Washington Redskins
Sense out of Washington this week has been that it would be challenging for QB Alex Smith to return from his calf injury this week. And now today, Dwayne Haskins is taking the starter reps at practice, and is tracking to start Sunday vs. Panthers. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Alex Smith was seen throwing to receivers today but it appears Haskins will be the likely starting QB on Sunday against the Panthers. Terry McLaurin (ankle) has missed the last two days of practice which bears watching heading into the weekend.

Injury Dwayne Haskins will start for Washington
Alex Smith out with calf injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 18, 1:45 pm

Washington Redskins
WFT is ruling out QB Alex Smith for Sunday's game against Seattle due to his calf injury, per source. Dwayne Haskins will start against the Seahawks. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Haskins may be a bit of a downgrade for tight end Logan Thomas who has seen his production rise with Smith at quarterback. Terry McLaurin remains in a decent spot in either catch-up mode or neutral game script against the Seahawks.
