Patriots bring back TE Ben Watson
Team didn't have roster spot for Watson returning from suspension
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 14, 1:00 pm
The New England Patriots are expected to re-sign veteran tight end Ben Watson, a league source told ESPN's Field Yates. When the Patriots released Watson on Oct. 7, head coach Bill Belichick said the team didn't have a roster spot for Watson upon his return from a four-game NFL suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. But injuries have altered the picture, and so Watson, who spent training camp with the club and has a background with the system, will return and project as an immediate contributor. (ESPN)
FFToday's Take: The tight end is once again a dumpster in fantasy football so Watson will be a free agent target in Week 7, especially now that Will Dissly (Achilles) is out for the season. Having said that, it's hard to envision Watson being anything more than a TE2 for the remainder of the season.
Patriots decline to active Ben Watson
Veteran TE wants to keep playing

#Patriots TE Ben Watson, who was not activated today by New England meaning his tenure is over, does want to keep playing, I’m told. So retirement gets pushed off against as he looks for a new home. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Watson is now a free agent and able to sign with another team. Given the state of the position in fantasy football, Watson owners can hang on to him and see where he lands. The Patriots are not utilizing their tight end in the passing game to make Ryan Izzo or Matt LaCosse a worthwhile fantasy asset.
Rex Burkhead downgraded to Out
TE Ben Watson did not travel with the team

FFToday's Take: With Burkhead out, James White and Sony Michel should see the bulk of work against the Redskins. In other Patriots news, TE Ben Watson did not travel with the team and will not play. Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo will get the work at tight end.
