Start 'Em:
Wide Receivers Who Will Outperform
Relative To Their Draft Position And Recent Hype
Davone Bess @ NYJ
The unheralded Bess has flown beneath the radar but has come on
late in the season. I’ve got a feeling that Chad Pennington will
get Bess involved early and often at the Meadowlands. The Jets
have served up 21 TDs through the air, tied for the 6th highest
total in the NFL and Bess has a good shot at his 2nd career TD.
Marques Colston vs. CAR
Colston is finally playing like we expected him to, and it only
took 15 weeks. He’s got 183 receiving yards and 3 TDs in his last
2 games and there is no reason to believe he will slow down this
week as he has reassumed his role as Drew Brees favorite target.
Wes Welker @ BUF
Welker is on a tear; he’s amassed 25 catches over his last
3 games and has scored TDs in consecutive weeks for the first
time this season. He is a huge component of the Patriot offense
and needs to be in your lineups again this week.
Vincent Jackson vs. DEN
Last week Vincent Jackson’s 111 yards put him over 1,000
receiving yards for the first time in his young career. In his
last 3 games, Jackson has 18 catches for 348 yards and 2 TDs.
He leaves little doubt that he will produce another big game at
home in Sunday’s battle with Denver.
Bench 'Em:
Wide Receivers Who Will Under Perform
Relative To Their Draft Position And Recent Hype
Braylon Edwards @ PIT
Braylon has been breaking your heart all season, and there is
nothing he can do in Week 17 to make up for it. While Edwards
isn’t the cause of the Browns problems, he certainly hasn’t
done much to alleviate them. He’s got a brutal matchup this
week against the #1 defense in the NFL.
Dennis Northcutt @ BAL
Northcutt waited until Week 15 to do anything to impress fantasy
owners, but he has definitely made some noise recently. In his
last 2 games, the former Brown has 13 catches for 228 yards and
2 TDs. Not too shabby. On Sunday he is headed to Baltimore to
face the Ravens, and should go back to being a non-factor again.
Isaac Bruce vs. WAS
Isaac “The Reverend” Bruce is enjoying a late-season resurgence;
in his last 5 games he has 33 catches for 394 yards and 3 TDs.
Despite the Redskins crappy ways, they have one of the top pass
defenses in the NFL and will find a way to keep Bruce and QB Shaun
Hill in check.
Antonio Bryant vs. OAK
Much like the aforementioned Redskins, the Raiders may be bad
at many things, but one thing they can do fairly well is defend
the pass. Last week they held Andre Johnson to 2 catches for 19
yards; most teams wont challenge Nnamdi Asomugha. Bryant has been
on a tear and has earned the right to play, but you should temper
your expectations in this tough matchup.
