Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Start 'Em:
Receivers Who Will Outperform Relative
To Their Draft Position And Recent Hype
DeSean Jackson @ DAL
Jackson was held to 4 catches for 33 yards last week, but managed
to score for the 5th straight game; he has scored at least 1 TD
in 7 of his last 9 games. The Cowboys held him to 2 catches for
29 yards in their first meeting this season as Donovan McNabb
targeted him just 5 times. He did have a 6-catch, 110 yard game
last year in a 41-37 loss in Dallas. Look for Jackson to step
up in this huge NFC East game. I like Jeremy Maclin to have an
impact as well.
"Terrell Who?"
Miles Austin
vs. PHI
Staying in the same game, waiver-wire-add-of-the-year Miles Austin
is a must-start this week. Over his last 5 contests, Austin has
racked up 39 catches for 551 yards and 4 TDs. He is up to 74 receptions
for 1,230 yards and 11 TDs on the season, which makes it easier
for Cowboy fans to say ‘Terrell who?’
Visanthe Shiancoe vs. NYG
Shiancoe has an impressive 10 receiving TDs this season, thanks
largely in part to QB Brett Favre’s arrival in Minnesota, although
he did have 7 last year. He has been limited in practice this
week, but if he suits up on Sunday he is a strong play against
the Giants. In their last 3 games, New York has allowed TEs (Jeff
King, Fred Davis, Brent Celek) to catch a TD. Although he didn’t
score, TE Jason Witten had 14 catches in a game against the Giants
(Week 13) and TE Tony Gonzalez had 8 grabs for 82 yards and 1
TD (Week 11) against them.
Devin Aromashodu @ DET
Aromashodu has suited up for just 5 games this season, but has
come to life over the last 3 weeks with 17 catches for 236 yards
and 2 TDs. He had his best game as a professional against the
Vikings on Monday Night Football last week: 7 catches for 150
yards and the game winning overtime TD. There is no reason to
believe that he can’t lead the Bears in receiving this week
in Detroit. The Lions have the worst pass defense in the league
which bodes well for Cutler and Aromashodu.
Bench 'Em:
Receivers Who Will Under Perform Relative
To Their Draft Position And Recent Hype
Chad Ochocinco
@ NYJ
Regardless of what Johnson says about how he is going to play
against the Jets and CB Darrelle Revis, he’s got the odds stacked
against him this week. Revis has shut down basically every WR
he has faced this season. Furthermore, as discussed previously
in this article with regard to other Bengals fantasy starters,
Johnson will likely see less on-field snaps this week due to playoff
considerations.
Reggie Wayne @ BUF
If Wayne and Co. sat early in the third quarter last week against
the Jets, expect more of the same this week in Buffalo. Sure,
he could do damage in his limited time, but a stinker is also
a distinct possibility.
Marques Colston @ CAR
The Saints will likely rest key players this week so if you have
alternate options, it may be prudent to consider them. Colston,
like Wayne above, is a candidate to do damage in limited duty.
Carolina is a formidable opponent, as they have the 4th ranked
passing defense in the NFL (196.9 YPG).
