Each week in this column I will be highlighting my favorite value
plays on Fanduel as well as my primary cash game lineup for the
current week. Last week,
I did pretty well regardless of missing on a favorite value play
of mine, tight end Greg
Olsen. The lineup hit 139.66 points and cashed in almost all
of my head-to-head games and 50/50’s.
With Week 1 in the books we now look forward to Week 2. In this
weeks primary lineup I am huge proponent of Sam
Bradford, Ameer
Abdullah, and Jordan
Matthews. It allowed me to go heavy after stud wide receivers
like Antonio
Brown and Julio
Jones who are in line for big weeks. They are both “chalk”
plays but in cash games we aren’t too concerned with that. The
idea is to have a high floor and go after proven studs when possible.
We will see if we can keep this momentum going in Week 2.
After a slow start Sam Bradford really turned it on in Week 1.
He finished the game with 336 yards and one touchdown, with another
that could have gone to Jordan Matthews if Chip Kelly would have
challenged the spot of the ball. The volume in this offense will
be scary week-to-week and Bradford looks more than comfortable
in the system. He continuously used his running backs as outlets
and will continue to be extremely efficient. This week against
Dallas will prove to be one of the highest scoring contests if
Vegas Lines hold up. A $7500 salary on FanDuel is a huge value
this week.
When given solid protection, Carson Palmer can still throw the
ball down field as well as anyone. It is a nice matchup against
the Bears-D that Aaron Rodgers threw 3 touchdowns against just
a week ago. Palmer has been highly consistent for fantasy owners
under Bruce Arians in Arizona and has a surprisingly high floor
week-to-week.
Bradford only seems to have eyes for Matthews these days and
he is locked in as a WR1, but is still priced on FanDuel as a
WR2. As the Eagles slot receiver he will again benefit in the
short passing game that Sam Bradford thrives under. As a game
that serves to be a shootout, you could do worse with your $7000.
Garcon might be one of the safest plays on Fanduel this week.
He had 6 receptions on 8 targets that he took for 76 yards. With
DeSean Jackson battling a hamstring injury he sustained in Week
1, Garcon is a lock for a high volume of targets against St. Louis.
The improved pass rush of the Rams actually improves his outlook
as Quarterback Kirk Cousins will have less time to look down field
and be more content hitting his security blanket Garcon.
Drew Brees only touchdown pass against Arizona last week was
thrown to the rookie Brandon Coleman. The matchup this week against
Tampa Bay will be much softer as they gave up 4 touchdowns through
the air last week. Coleman may be more of a contrarian pick this
week but his salary of $5000 should not be passed up if you are
in need of a high upside WR3.
Eleven touches in Week 1? No problem for Abdullah. He is a threat
to score every time he touches the ball and his skillset is way
and above what Joique Bell brings to the field. The coaches are
taking notice and I expect the touches to increase for Abdullah
every week from here on out. Abdullah is literally priced on Fanduel
among players like Darren McFadden and Devonta Freeman. It’s an
absolute joke. Throw him in your lineup and move on.
The committee in San Diego was nearly a 50/50 split in Week 1
but Woodhead is the clear red zone favorite. The chargers trust
in Woodhead is evident again this season. I expect that trend
to continue where he will be a threat to steal touchdowns from
Gordon every week. Guard D.J. Fluker is out for at least a month
so the short passing game will be how the Chargers are successful
for the time being. He represents great value at $6200 at FanDuel
and has a very high floor in Week 2 even against a tough defense
like Cincinnati.
Witten had 9 targets in Week 1, which lead all Cowboys. With the
loss of Dez Bryant I don’t see those targets going down
any time soon. He will continue to be a threat in the red zone
and is a player who you can play with confidence through volume
alone. He should easily return his value of $6000 on FanDuel even
though tight end is such a high variance position. This week against
Philadelphia he is in for a big night against a team he’s
had good games against in the past. Witten is easily one of the
best value plays at the position in Week 2.
