2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
2020 was a year of adjustment for Evans as he worked to create chemistry with Tom Brady and adapted to an offense that was evolving by the week. Truth be told, most of Evans' numbers were down. His 109 targets and 62.9 receiving yards per game were the worst of his career. He barely surpassed the 1,000-yard mark (1,006) and averaged just 14.4 yards per catch, both the 2nd-worst of his career. His catches (70) and 100-yard games (4) were only lower two other times in his seven-year NFL run. The one stat that was up was his touchdown total, a career-high 13.

So, if in a "down" year, when everything is new, he gives you 70 catches for 1,000+ yards and 13 scores, that's still a win for fantasy owners. He ranked 7th in the NFL with 11.2 fantasy points per game, and it would seem to follow that he'd be better in 2021 with a year of Brady under his belt.

It's important for owners to understand, however, that the Buccaneers attack is going to continue to look more and more like the possession game that Brady favors, featuring more short and intermediate routes and check down routes to the TE's and RB's. That's going to limit some of Evans' considerable upside as a deep threat, and he's still going to be sharing targets with a whole host of talented pass-catchers in this offense. Simply put, they're loaded! But if you view Evans as the sort of Randy Moss of this offense, stretching the field on occasion and owning the red zone targets, he's still solidly in the WR1 discussion.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Breshad Perriman unlikely to play, abdominal injury
Bucs WR missed practice Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 21, 12:22 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Arians says Breshad Perriman has a new abdominal injury with a tear and didn’t practice at all today. Seems unlikely to be able to go Sunday. With Perriman and Grayson still question marks, Arians said receiver John Brown has looked very good in practice and they’ll consider elevating him Sunday for depth at receiver. (Greg Auman on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Bucs are going to be short-handed at receiver against the Rams with Mike Evans likely called upon to do the heavy lifting. Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller should also see plenty of snaps in the Divisional Round.

Injury Cyril Grayson nursing hamstring injury
Status in question for Wildcard game
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jan 10, 12:17 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs HC Bruce Arians says that the hamstring injury to Cyril Grayson Jr. is not quite as bad as they thought, but his availability for this Sunday is in question. (Pewter Report on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Grayson has helped fill the void of Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin missing time due to injury, suspension and shenanigans but should be considered highly questionable for the Bucs Wildcard game against the Eagles. Expect Tom Brady to lean on Mike Evans, Breshad Perriman and Rob Gronkowski

Injury Bucs make it official, release Antonio Brown
No longer a Buc
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jan 6, 12:29 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers are releasing Antonio Brown today, league sources tell ESPN. He is, as Bruce Arians proclaimed Sunday, no longer a Buc. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Brown stormed off the field mid-game in spectacular fashion in Week 17 and has now been released. HC Bruce Arians noted that AB was unhappy about his first half targets while Brown and Mike Evans were on a pitch count for the game. We'll see if another team is willing to give the 33 year-old diva wide receiver yet another chance in 2022.

Injury Antonio Brown, Mike Evans expected to play
Evans likely will be limited
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Jan 1, 11:45 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown, listed as questionable for Sunday due to an ankle injury, is expected to play vs. the Jets, per sources. Bucs initially had their doubts Brown would play, but he practiced Saturday and barring a setback Sunday, is expected to go. Buccaneers’ wide receiver Mike Evans, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a hamstring injury, is expected to play in a limited capacity vs. the Jets, per sources. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Evans limited, he's going to be hard to trust even in a great matchup against the Jets. Brown will have some risk associated with him too, given the wasn't sure of his status on Saturday. He's heading into the game as Tom Brady's number 1 target.

Injury Antonio Brown, Mike Evans gametime decisions
Evans removed from Covid list
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 31, 1:00 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Asked about Mike Evans, Harold Goodwin says there's "a chance he may play" Sunday but will likely be a game-day decision on whether he plays. Goodwin says Antonio Brown "tweaked" his ankle a little in practice this week but is still possible to play this week. They'll decide how he feels Sunday and go from there. (Greg Auman on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Even if either of these two play, fantasy owners are going to a little nervous about starting them given their injuries. Evans seems like the more likely to be ruled out on Sunday but we'll have to wait an see. The matchup against the Jets is prime.

Injury Antonio Brown misses practice Thursday
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Dec 30, 4:02 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs WR Antonio Brown downgraded to did not participate Thursday with an ankle injury. Rakeem Nunez-Roches was activated from the COVID-19 list. Antoine Winfield Jr. was limited in practice Thursday. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Brown was limited on Wednesday so we'll need to pay close attention to his status tomorrow. Mike Evans was seen catching passes from practice squad QB Ryan Griffin on Thursday. The Bucs are in a smash spot against the Jets in Week 17.

Injury Mike Evans lands on COVID list
Missed Week 16 with hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 27, 7:20 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs have placed wide receiver Mike Evans on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. (ESPN - Jenna Laine)

FFToday's Take: Evans was unlikely to play in Week 17 anyway due to his hamstring injury, so this news figures to squash any chance that had of happening - especially after the Buccaneers clinched the NFC South over the weekend. Tampa Bay will likely rely on Antonio Brown and Breshad Perriman heavily over the final two weeks of the regular season unless Evans is cleared in time to play in Week 18. Evans is 101 yards shy of beginning his career with eight consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Injury Mike Evans ruled Out for Week 16
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 24, 12:30 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs WR Mike Evans and S Antoine Winfield, Jr., are out for Sunday's game at Carolina. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Bucs lost Evans, Chris Godwin (ACL), and Leonard Fournette (hamstring) to injury last week leaving their offense decimated. Breshad Perriman remains on the Covid list so it appears Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Johnson will likely be Brady's top three targets against the Panthers.

Injury Mike Evans dealing with hamstring strain
Reportedly has a chance to play in Week 16?
By: Doug Orth | Tue Dec 21, 1:30 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs’ WR Mike Evans has a strained hamstring, is week-to-week and has a chance to play Sunday, per source. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: It seems unlikely the Bucs will push Evans to play with a three-game division lead and three games to play. It seems even more unlikely they would do so with Chris Godwin (knee) out for the season. Expect Tampa Bay to lean heavily on Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski for at least Week 16 against the Panthers. It is quite possible the Bucs sit Evans in Week 17 versus the Jets as well.

Injury Chris Godwin expected to miss rest of regular season
Antonio Brown expected to return
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 20, 10:21 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs WR Chris Godwin, who suffered an MCL sprain, is expected to miss the rest of the regular season, source said. With three games left, Injured Reserve makes sense. Godwin should be able to return for the playoffs, which obviously is most important. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Bad news for Godwin owners but if you've held onto Antonio Brown, you're likely to be rewarded. Luckily Godwin didn't suffer a major knee injury. Mike Evans is dealing with a hamstring injury which could elevate Tyler Johnson into more snaps moving forward. Brown should be eligible to play beginning Week 16.

Injury Bucs lose Godwin, Evans, Fournette to injury on SNF
Knee injury for Godwin, Hamstring injuries for Evans, Fournette
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 19, 11:31 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Arians has no details on severity of injuries -- Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette have hamstring injuries, Chris Godwin a knee injury, Lavonte David a foot injury. (Greg Auman on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Ian Rapoport noted that Godwin suffered a sprained MCL based on initial diagnosis and will likely miss some time with an MRI scheduled tomorrow. We'll likely get word on the hamstring injuries suffered by Evans and Fournette in the coming days. Antonio Brown is eligible to return from his suspension in Week 16. Ronald Jones is in position to be the starting RB next week against the Panthers.

Antonio Brown hit with three-game suspension
Cannot play until Week 16
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 2, 11:30 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
National Football League announced today discipline of three players for violating jointly developed and administered NFL-NFLPA COVID-19 protocols. Tampa Bay's Antonio Brown and Mike Edwards have each been suspended without pay for the next three games. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: This guy. Brown made the mistake of telling a secret to a former personal chef and it came back to bite him when the chef didn't receive payment for his services. The sad thing is that Brown is reportedly already vaccinated, so it is a bit unclear as to why he felt it necessary to potentially commit a federal crime if he was going to get the vaccine anyway. Brown was already expected to be out the next two games due to his ankle injury, but this suspension means Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski should have at least three more solid fantasy weeks.

Injury Rob Gronkowski a gametime decision
Optimism he will play
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 31, 7:00 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) is considered a game-time decision after missing about a month, and he’ll likely work out pre-game to be sure. One source described optimism about his playing status, which would be a big lift for TB against the #Saints. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Gronk is on the good side of Questionable but we'll have to wait until pre-game warmups to know for sure. With Antonio Brown out, and Mike Evans battling Marshon Lattimore, Gronk could be heavily involved in the passing game in Week 8
