2025 Outlook
Depth Chart
Emeka Egbuka's situation in Tampa Bay reminds me of the circumstances that greeted fellow Ohio State alum Jaxon Smith-Njigba's arrival in Seattle: both ended up on teams with two solid vets playing ahead of them. In JSN's case, it was DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett blocking his upside. Despite Metcalf and Lockett's presence, JSN still carved out a 63/628/4 stat line. Not eyepopping, but enough to signal his potential. The same should be expected for Egbuka. The biggest concern is Egbuka played 75 percent of his snaps in the slot at Ohio State last season -- the same position as Godwin. How will those snaps be divvied up in 2025?

In the short-term, expect Egbuka's production to be limited because of Evans and Godwin's presence and continued dominance. But in the long-term, he should become a productive fantasy stud that sees him ascend to a low-end WR2 before long, similar to JSN's trajectory. What does that mean for 2025? It means taking a flyer on Egbuka late in your draft with the hope that he gets enough playing time to put up numbers, or keep him on ice in case one of the vets ahead of him misses time due to injury.

Injury Mike Evans out with broken collarbone, concussion
Lost season for veteran receiver
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 20, 9:53 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Evans suffered a broken collarbone during Monday night's 24-9 loss to the Detroit Lions, an injury that will sideline him for most of the remaining season, according to coach Todd Bowles. Evans, who also sustained a concussion, was carted to the locker room in the second quarter. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Evans had just returned from a hamstring injury that cost him three games. Now, he'll likely miss a big chuck of the remaining regular season. The Bucs are thin at the wideout position with Chris Godwin (ankle) still out. They'll move forward with Emeka Egbuka, Tez Johnson and Sterling Shepard as their top three wideouts.

Injury Emeka Egbuka, Mike Evans good to go for Monday night
Rookie WR playing despite suffering hamstring injury in Week 6
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 20, 6:00 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Emeka Egbuka will play tonight after testing his hamstring pregame. Both Mike Evans and Egbuka expected to play against a best up Lions secondary. (Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud)

FFToday's Take: Fantasy managers are on their own in this one, as there is no way to know if Egbuka will handle his normal allotment of snaps or will serve as a decoy. With that said, he is unlikely to be used just as a decoy. Managers who took the chance on Egbuka playing this weekend are unlikely to have many choices with more upside anyway. If the rookie is a full-go, he faces a Detroit secondary that is more beat up than his receiver counterparts. Don't be surprised if he returns WR2 production or better. The same could be said for Evans.

Injury Mike Evans, Emeka Egbuka gametime decisions for Monday
Evans expected to play
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 18, 12:35 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
And Mike Evans, who practiced today, also is considered a pre-game decision, though it sounds like there is more hope for him than Emeka Egbuka. Even if Egbuka doesn’t play Monday night, he is expected to have a chance to play next week at New Orleans before the Buccaneers’ bye. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Evans is going to play barring some setback, but don't be surprised if Egbuka is on the Inactive list Monday night. Both are dealing with hamstring injuries. Bucky Irving (foot) and Chris Godwin (ankle) have both been ruled Out. Tampa Bay has a bye in Week 9.

Injury Mike Evans expected to practice on Thursday
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 16, 9:21 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Evans is expected to return to practice today for the Bucs. (Rick Stroud on X)

FFToday's Take: This will be Tampa Bay's first practice this week as they play Monday night against the Lions. Evans injured his hamstring in Week 3 and hasn't played since. The fact that he wasn't put on IR suggests that he's on track to play but we'll see how practice goes this week. The Bucs are banged up at the receiver position with Chris Godwin (ankle) and Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) likely out.

Injury Chris Godwin ruled Out for Week 6
Fibula injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 10, 2:27 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers ruled out WRs Chris Godwin and Mike Evans along with RB Bucky Irving for Sunday’s game vs. the 49ers. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Godwin missed practice this week with a fibula injury, something unrelated to his ankle injury suffered last season. HC Todd Bowles said Godwin is "week-to-week" which doesn't sound good for his chances at playing in Week 7. The Bucs have a bye in Week 9. With Godwin out, the top three receivers should be Emeka Egbuka, Sterling Shepard and rookie Tez Johnson. This would also be a situation where TE Cade Otton could see increased targets.
