2024 Outlook
Depth Chart
Few players have been more heavily covered than Aiyuk during the offseason thanks to his ongoing contract situation with the club. The 49ers exercised their fifth-year option on the talented wideout, meaning he's set to earn north of $14M in 2024, but his future beyond that is cloudy. He's said that the team doesn't want him back, yet also noted that he'd "for sure" like to return. It could all be posturing, though like with Samuel, the team was reportedly open for business on trade talks.

While Samuel has seen his production wane, Aiyuk has seen his rise year on year, breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in 2022 and then following that up with a 75-1342-7 season last year as he emerged as Purdy's go-to guy -- his 17.9 yards per catch was second among qualified pass catchers behind Pittsburgh's George Pickens (18.1). He's powerfully built, makes big plays and has been highly durable during his four NFL campaigns.

Under the current CBA, a holdout is extremely unlikely once training camp starts. Yes, given that the 49ers used their top pick on WR Ricky Pearsall, the odds are either Aiyuk or Samuel will be gone in 2025. That shouldn't matter to fantasy owners, and Aiyuk has earned his spot as a top-20 fantasy receiver and a superior option to Samuel.

Injury Brandon Aiyuk done for the year
Torn ACL and MCL
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 21, 7:10 pm

San Francisco
49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sunday, tests confirmed. (FOX Sports - Jordan Schultz)

FFToday's Take: Even though Aiyuk was far from the fantasy force this season as he has been in years past, he will be difficult to replace even as first-round rookie Ricky Pearsall made his NFL debut in Week 7. Jauan Jennings (hip) will likely move into the starting lineup opposite Deebo Samuel (illness), although neither player is in great shape right now. Jennings should be the bigger priority if he is available on waivers, but Pearsall might end up being the more valuable property as he gets more comfortable in the offense.

Injury Deebo Samuel expected to miss multiple games
Suffered a calf strain in Week 2
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 16, 11:30 pm

San Francisco
More: 49ers WR Deebo Samuel strained his calf Sunday and is expected to miss a couple weeks, per HC Kyle Shanahan. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: A "couple weeks" suggests that Samuel is dealing with a Grade 1 strain, since a Grade 2 strain usually means an athlete will be sidelined for at least a month. San Francisco will almost certainly rely more heavily on George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk in the passing game now without Samuel around. Jauan Jennings will start in Samuel's place and could be worth starting in deeper leagues. Considering how often Samuel was seeing work out of the backfield, look for rookie Isaac Guerendo to spell Jordan Mason.

Injury CMC, Brandon Aiyuk practice on Tuesday
RB was sidelined with minor calf issue; WR returns after long hold-in
By: Doug Orth | Tue Sep 3, 11:50 pm

San Francisco
49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk and RB Christian McCaffrey back at practice on Tuesday… (ESPN.com - Nick Wagoner)

FFToday's Take: The news millions of fantasy managers wanted to hear. By all accounts, McCaffrey's calf issue was a minor one that either he or the team (if not both) treated conservatively. All fantasy managers - especially those with CMC - would be wise to stash Jordan Mason just in case. As far as Aiyuk is concerned, managers may want to sit him if possible this week. The Jets' secondary is about as stingy as it gets and Aiyuk could be on something of a snap count.

49ers, Brandon Aiyuk agree on contract extension
Hold-in over
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 29, 6:57 pm

San Francisco
In the end, Brandon Aiyuk accepted the same deal that has been on the table since August. 10, per league sources. His hold-in did not alter any part of his new four-year, $120 million extension. He took the same deal that had been there for the past three weeks. Hold-in over. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Trade deals were in the works with New England, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, but in the end, Aiyuk stays in San Francisco. It just so happens the 49ers are the best team for his fantasy value. His coming off his best season (75-1342-7) as a pro finishing as the WR12 in Half-PPR leagues. Despite missing all of training camp, he'll remain a high-end WR2 heading into a huge draft weekend.
