Rice's strong close to 2023 led to heightened expectations during the offseason. Things got muddied by an off-the-field incident that many figured would result in a potentially lengthy suspension from the NFL, which pushed him down draft boards and made him a risk/reward selection. Rice did indeed turn out to be a risky pick, though not for anything off the field, as he avoided punishment from the league but not from his opponents as a Week 4 knee injury shelved him for the rest of 2024.
His absence created a trickledown effect that robbed the offense of much of its expected explosiveness -- Rice was on pace for 102 receptions, 1,224 yards, and 9 TDs when he was injured -- and his return is a big reason there's a lot of optimism about Kansas City returning to form as a powerhouse offense in 2025. Incredibly, though, there's still been no resolution on his pending legal difficulties, so it remains a possibility that the NFL could hand down some discipline.
At this point, the expectation is that the NFL won't do anything until the legal proceedings conclude, so Rice appears poised to play out the 2025 season. Based purely on what we've seen from Rice on the field, he looks like a borderline top-20 fantasy wideout this season.

Xavier Worthy could return in Week 4 WR likely to play limited role due to shoulder injury By: Doug Orth | Tue Sep 23, 9:40 pm

| | The Chiefs are optimistic Xavier Worthy will be able to play a limited role for the offense while wearing a small harness. (ESPN.com - Nate Taylor)
FFToday's Take: Although Marquise Brown has absorbed most of Worthy's short targets since he left with his shoulder injury in Week 1, Tyquan Thornton has emerged as the Chiefs' primary receiver over the last two-plus games. It remains to be seen if Thornton can hold onto a regular field-stretching role when Rashee Rice (suspension) is back and Worthy is feeling better, but the former Patriot surprisingly has value in deeper leagues right now.

| Xavier Worthy has a chance to play in Week 2? WR deemed day-to-day with shoulder injury By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 8, 11:30 pm

| | WR Xavier Worthy is considered day to day as he continues to rehab his shoulder, head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday. Worthy suffered the injury early in Kansas City's season-opening loss to the Chargers in Brazil. (Around the NFL)
FFToday's Take: There is some thought that Worthy may be able to wear a brace and play through his dislocated shoulder, but that seems highly unlikely given the amount of pain he was in during Friday's loss. Even if he did play, how effective could he be expected to be on routes over the middle of the field? Marquise Brown earned 16 targets in the opener and figures to be the No. 1 target in this offense until Rashee Rice (suspension) returns. Don't be afraid to spend 20 percent or more of your FAAB if he somehow did not get drafted in your league and fire him up as a high-upside WR3 if you already have him.

| Rashee Rice hit with six-game suspension Eligible to return Week 7 against the Raiders By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 27, 12:06 pm

| | #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is accepting and will serve a six-game suspension to start the 2025 regular season, per sources.
The NFL and NFLPA are working to finalize the settlement, which will end Rice’s disciplinary limbo and make him eligible to return Week 7 vs. Las Vegas. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Rice's suspension has been in limbo this entire off-season and now we have some closure. Six games is a big number and should significantly affect his fantasy currently hovering around WR30 in half-PPR leagues next to Jaylen Waddle, Calvin Ridley and Travis Hunter. I would avoid him in most redraft leagues in Rounds 5/6 but drafting Rice in deeper leagues (18 spots) that can place suspended players on IR is more palatable.
