Dissatisfied with the production he got from his backfield -- the combination of Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Audric Estime turned 328 total carries into 1,319 yards (4.0 YPC) and 7 TDs with just 3 runs of more than 20 yards last season -- head coach Sean Payton looked to add talent to the running back room during the offseason. The first and biggest splash being the selection of Harvey in the second round of this year's draft.
Harvey was highly productive during his time at Central Florida, averaging 6.5 yards per carry for his collegiate career, and he boasts a nice blend of tackle-breaking ability and speed. There are some concerns about his ability in pass protection that could limit him to early downs, at least initially, but you don't invest a premium pick at the running back position unless you think they can be a difference maker. He'll have to compete with holdovers McLaughlin and Estime, as well as newly signed J.K. Dobbins, but right now he looks to be the favorite to take over as the lead back.
While he doesn't appear to have the same ceiling as fellow AFC West rookie backs Ashton Jeanty (Raiders) and Omarion Hampton (Chargers), Harvey has a clear path to playing time. McLaughlin is more of a change of pace than a featured back, Estime is unproven, and Dobbins has a long injury history. The job is Harvey's to lose. Nab him as your No.3 back and see if he can push toward the top 20.

Season over for J.K. Dobbins, foot surgery Placed on IR By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 15, 3:22 pm

| | Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins will be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury that requires surgery and likely end his season, per ESPN sources.
Dobbins sustained the injury on a hip-drop tackle during the Broncos’ Thursday night win against the Raiders. Set to become a free agent after the year, Dobbins was fifth in the league in rushing and is expected to make a full recovery. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Dobbins was having a solid season as an RB2 even while splitting running back work three ways in the Denver offense. The Broncos running back room will now feature RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie. Badie has been typically used in third down and two-minute situations. We'll see how much McLaughlin cuts into Harvey this week when the Broncos take on the Chiefs.

| J.K. Dobbins a candidate for IR? Week 10 foot injury could sideline RB for a month By: Doug Orth | Tue Nov 11, 4:30 pm

| | #Broncos I'm told are considering what to do with running back J.K. Dobbins and his foot injury. I was told placing him on injured reserve is being considered. (Denver Gazette - Chris Tomasson)
FFToday's Take: The injury occurred on a hip-drop tackle on Thursday night against the Raiders. Dobbins returned to the game and finished it out, but it appears the injury is much more serious than he could have imagined. Perhaps the only thing keeping Denver from putting him on IR is the team's Week 12 bye. With last week's early game giving him a few extra days and the upcoming bye, Dobbins could recover for roughly 3 1/2 weeks and only miss two games. In the interim, RJ Harvey should serve as a solid RB2 start in most leagues. He will likely lose about 6-8 touches per week to Jaleel McLaughlin, who now enters the low-end flex conversation.
