Jets sign QB Justin Fields, two-year deal

The #Jets are signing QB Justin Fields, per me and @TomPelissero, as Gang Green gets a new starter. Fields says goodbye to Pittsburgh after 1 year. He gets a 2-year deal worth $40M with $30M guaranteed in a deal done by @DavidMulughetaof @AthletesFirst. (Ian Rapoport on X)

FFToday's Take: The Jets have parted ways with Aaron Rodgers after two years and will try their luck with Fields who lost his job as the starter with Steelers last season to Russell Wilson. The Jets have viable weapons at running back (Breece Hall) and receiver (Garrett Wilson) and Fields is capable of providing fantasy points with his legs. He'll be a viable QB2 assuming he lands the starting gig in 2025.

Team will take $49 million dead money hit, likely spread over 2 years

Jets announced that they "informed Aaron Rodgers that we will be moving in a different direction at quarterback." The Jets will face $49M in dead money when they eventually release Aaron Rodgers. They can take the full hit this year or, more likely, designate him as a post-6/1 cut. As a 6/1 cut, they’d carry his $23.5M cap hit until June 1, when it drops to $14M-saving $9.5M. However, they’d then absorb a $35M cap hit in 2025 (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Rodgers is now 41 years old and will have to decide if you wants to continue playing or call it a career. He finished as the QB24 in fantasy points per game this past season and won't have much fantasy value in 1QB leagues regardless of what team he lands with in 2025.
