Was anyone else horrified by how bad the Chiefs looked in the preseason? New Houston QB Matt Schaub must be licking his chops with his talented young receivers and the prospect of facing the Chiefs in Week 1. And don't get me started on Larry Johnson. Herm Edwards made a big mistake by not voicing his discontent in the young RB when he held out, something that Dick Vermeil did early and often for LJ, lighting a fire under his butt and in his guts. I'm not at all surprised the Texans are favored here, because they've looked like the better team in camp.
Predicted Score: Texans 24, Chiefs 20
Fantasy Focus Kansas City: You obviously can't sit Larry Johnson if you drafted him, but you must be wondering if he was worth the price, given the reports that he's getting limited touches the first week against a suspect Texans D. I really don't have a lot of good things to say about this offense (or this defense) right now, but I do believe that Tony Gonzalez will begin the season well, adding to his immutable legacy as one of the best TEs in fantasy history.
Start: Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez
Consider: Eddie Kennison, Michael Bennett and Justin Medlock
Sit: Damon Huard, Samie Parker, Team Defense
Houston: With the KC secondary in obvious disarray and the defensive line looking to provide constant pressure, I think Schaub and the Texans will throw lots of quick outs and run screens designed to expose the cheating defenders. That means big games for Schaub, Ahman Green, Andre Johnson and maybe even Owen Daniels.
Start: Ahman Green, Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub (#2 QB only)
Note: Team statistics are shown as the average per game
through Weeks 12 to 17 of the 2006 season after deducting the best
and worst value from the data set. The exception is yards per rush attempt, completion %, yards per
pass completion, yards per pass attempt and the NFL averages, which are each calculated based on
totals through Weeks 12 to 17 with no adjustment.
