Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers

Game Preview
Mike Krueger

It wasn't much of a contest last year when these two teams met. The Eagles handed the Pack a 31-9 loss that included 4 TDs from Donovan McNabb (2 passing, 2 rushing). Green Bay has a solid defensive unit and should be fired up out of the locker room but if McNabb is 80% of himself I expect the Eagles to be able score and score often. Favre will try and match through the air as Green Bay lacks depth at the running back position with rookie Brandon Jackson expected to start backed up by DeShawn Wynn.

Predicted Score: Eagles 31, Packers 27

Fantasy Focus
Philadelphia: We'll get our first glimpse at the health of McNabb who has a new target in Kevin Curtis and the reliable Brian Westbrook (120 yds 1 TD in their last meeting) to lean on. TE L.J. Smith will likely be a gametime decision as he tries to recover from a groin injury suffered during the preseason. If Smith sits, TE Matt Schobel becomes a nice play if your hurting at the tight end position this week.
  • Start: QB Donovan McNabb, RB Brian Westbrook, WR Reggie Brown, WR Kevin Curtis
  • Consider: TE L.J. Smith (inj), TE Matt Schobel
  • Sit: Eagles-D/ST

Green Bay: RB Vernand Morency is trying to make it back this week but its likely his role will be limited even if he does see the field. Rookie Brandon Jackson is expected to start. WR Donald Driver is nursing a sore foot but his expected to play. He may not play a full game, giving way to James Jones in some formations, but is still one of the better fantasy receivers in the game and should be in your lineup.

  • Start: QB Brett Fave, WR Donald Driver, TE Donald Lee
  • Consider: RB Brandon Jackson, WR Greg Jennings, WR James Jones
  • Sit: RB Vernand Morency (inj), Packers D/ST
