Game Preview Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Packers 24, Seahawks 17
Seattle: It appears the Seahawks will get wide receiver Deion Branch back for this divisional playoff game against the Pack although his return may not matter as the passing game hasn't missed a beat with Bobby Engram, D.J. Hackett, and Nate Burleson filling the lineup. Perhaps Branch has learned to play tailback or perfected his "punch" technique over the last two weeks as the Seahawks could use some help in the run game. Their 20th rated rushing offense has been rank with mediocrity all season and stinks out loud on the road where they average 94.1 yds per game. This will be the best all-around team the Hawks have faced since Pittsburgh back in Week 5… a game they lost, scoring a grand total of zero (0) points. Yes their defense is superb and will give Favre and Co. some trouble, but a one-dimensional offense is not going to cut it on the road against a superior opponent. The Seahawks are 3-5 away from home this year and have just one postseason win outside of Seattle in franchise history - against the Dolphins in 1983. Seattle's season ends this week in Green Bay.
- Start: QB Matt Hasselbeck, WR Bobby Engram, WR Nate Burleson
- Consider: WR D.J. Hackett, WR Deion Branch, Seahawks D/ST
- Sit: RB Shaun Alexander, TE Marcus Pollard, K Josh Brown
Green Bay: The Packers await Seattle well rested and confident, ready to take the next step in their storybook season. They've been dominant at home this year (7-1) averaging 28 points and have victories over Washington, the Giants, and San Diego… all playoff teams. Seattle's lone matchup against a playoff team ended in a 21-0 loss against Pittsburgh. Green Bay's 2nd ranked offense is complimented by its defense, which gives up 18 points per game (6th in the league) and allowing only two rushers (Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson) to break the 100-yd-mark this season. The emergence of Ryan Grant midseason has given the Packers a legitimate rushing threat to compliment Favre's arm and should be the difference in the game. Grant has five 100-yd games since Week 8 and has scored at least one touchdown in seven of his last eight. With a definite home-field advantage and a couple inopportune Hasselbeck turnovers, this game could teeter on a Green Bay blowout.
- Start: QB Brett Favre, RB Ryan Grant, WR Greg Jennings, WR Donald Driver, Packers D/ST
- Consider: TE Donald Lee, K Mason Crosby
- Sit: WR James Jones, RB Vernand Morency
