In case you haven’t been paying attention, Montgomery is the
hottest back in the league over the past three weeks. His 26.9
FPts/G is more than Cook, Derrick Henry or Alvin Kamara. His five
rushing touchdowns are the most for a back over that span. The
Jaguars’ run defense ranks 30th for the season and 31st over the
past five weeks having allowed a league-worst 773 rushing yards.
He’s the best running back play of the day.
This is more about opportunities than performance. Fournette
rushes for just 3.9 ypc versus 5.0 for Ronald Jones, but Jones
isn’t going to play due to Covid-19 and finger surgery. It means
Fournette should see close to 20 touches in this one and the Bucs
figure to be ahead late allowing the running game to finish this
one out after Brady does his thing early in the game.
Bernard had done little with his opportunity while Joe Mixon
was sidelined, but he did show out Monday night against Pittsburgh
(25-83-1). That workload should continue against a vulnerable
Texans’ run defense which ranks 31st on the season and last over
the past five games. Bernard is also a factor in the passing game.
Despite just one target Monday night, he had seen 20 targets over
the previous five games.
The Bucs’ run defense has allowed a league-low 784 rushing
yards this season – that’s just 56 yards per game.
Swift can still be productive in the passing game, but not enough
to balance the lack of ground production. Additionally, a negative
game script figures to have an injured Matthew Stafford (ribs)
throwing more than running. It’s a tough spot for the entire
Lions’ offense.
It’s not that the Falcons run defense is so great, it’s
that the Falcons pass defense is so horrible and Andy Reid loves
to throw the ball. Who wouldn’t, when you have Mahomes under
center? The Chiefs will throw early and often and by the time
they start to run out the clock, the starters will be sitting
and backup Darrell Williams will see more of the ball than Bell.
With Cam Akers sidelined, you might hope for either Henderson
or Brown to step up and become a workhorse, but it figures to
be a shared backfield in which neither is fantasy-worthy. Meanwhile,
the Seahawks allow the most fantasy points in the league to wide
receivers (45 FPts/G). Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp are likely
to be featured in this one and the running backs will be strictly
touchdown-dependent.
