Predicted Score: Ravens 13, 49ers 10
San Francisco: Does anybody really want to watch this game? With all apologies to Ravens and 49ers fans, this one could be ugly. The 49ers have the worst statistical offense in the league and just lost their starting quarterback to a shoulder injury. Alex Smith suffered a moderate shoulder separation that won't require surgery but might keep him sidelined for some time. Trent Dilfer will take over an offense that has been held under 200 yards in three out of their four games. Frank Gore has yet to have a 100-yd rushing game and tight end Vernon Davis remains sidelined… Yikes. I'm not sure how or why, but I have the 49ers scoring 10 points.
- Start: RB Frank Gore
- Consider: WR Darrell Jackson, 49ers D/ST
- Sit: QB Trent Dilfer, WR Arnaz Battle, QB Alex Smith, TE Vernon Davis (inj)
Baltimore: If you didn't look at the final score of the Ravens game against the Browns last week and just looked at the box score, you can quickly figure the Ravens came up on the short end. How? Take a glance at Steve McNair's passing attempts…. 53. The Ravens are not built for McNair to heave the ball 53 times towards an aging Derrick Mason and a limping Mark Clayton. On the positive side, McNair did finally start and finish a game for the first time this season and Willis McGahee continues to be a solid contributor in the backfield despite his lack of touchdowns. That should be just enough to clip the 49ers in a game for the ages.
- Start: RB Willis McGahee, TE Todd Heap, WR Derrick Mason
- Consider: QB Steve McNair, Ravens D/ST
- Sit: WR Demetrius Williams, WR Mark Clayton
