Usage Notes: Conference Championships

By Mike Krueger | Updated: 1/27/25

Each week, I’ll look at snaps, usage, touches, target shares and pull out the highlights you need to know from each game.

BUF | KC | PHI | WAS

Buffalo

Offensive Snaps: 73

RB James Cook: 33 snaps (45.2%), 40.6% rush share, 9.7% tgt share
RB Ty Johnson: 30 snaps (41.1%), 18.8% rush share, 3.2% tgt share
RB Ray Davis: 9 snaps (12.3%), 6.2% rush share, 0.0% tgt share

Cook (16 touches) was an efficiency monster all season and that didn’t change on Sunday. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry and 16.3 yards per reception against the Chiefs. Josh Allen had 11 carries for 39 yards.

WR Khalil Shakir: 57 snaps (78.1%), 22.6% tgt share
WR Mack Hollins: 49 snaps (67.1%), 12.9% tgt share
WR Keon Coleman: 39 snaps (53.4%), 12.9% tgt share
WR Amari Cooper: 32 snaps (43.8%), 12.9% tgt share
WR Curtis Samuel: 14 snaps (19.2%), 9.7% tgt share

The Bills continues to use five wideouts in their gameplan which limits the fantasy production of all. Shakir (6-46-0) led the team with 7 targets.

TE Dawson Knox: 44 snaps (60.3%), 3.2% tgt share
TE Dalton Kincaid: 33 snaps (45.2%), 12.9% tgt share
TE Quintin Morris: 4 snaps (5.5%), 0.0% tgt share

The Chiefs were beat up by tight ends this season but Kincaid (2-13-0) had a quiet game and played fewer snaps than Knox (1 tgt).

Kansas City

Offensive Snaps: 66

RB Kareem Hunt: 38 snaps (57.6%), 48.6% rush share, 4.0% tgt share
RB Isiah Pacheco: 19 snaps (28.8%), 14.3% rush share, 8.0% tgt share
RB Samaje Perine: 10 snaps (15.2%), 0.0% rush share, 4.0% tgt share
RB Carson Steele: 7 snaps (10.6%), 0.0% rush share, 0.0% tgt share

It’s clear the Chiefs are leaning on Hunt (18 touches) as their lead back. Pacheco (7) doesn’t appear fully recovered from his leg injury earlier in the year.

WR Xavier Worthy: 54 snaps (81.8%), 28.0% tgt share
WR Marquise Brown: 43 snaps (65.2%), 20.0% tgt share
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster: 38 snaps (57.6%), 12.0% tgt share
WR DeAndre Hopkins: 12 snaps (18.2%), 8.0% tgt share
WR Justin Watson: 11 snaps (16.7%), 0.0% tgt share
WR Nikko Remigio: 3 snaps (4.5%), 0.0% tgt share

Worthy has become the top weapon in the Chiefs offense though the targets and touches are spread around so much that ceiling performances aren’t likely in any given week. Hopkins (2 tgts) continues to have a diminished role, playing behind JuJu (3 tgts) in this game.

TE Travis Kelce: 61 snaps (92.4%), 16.0% tgt share
TE Noah Gray: 29 snaps (43.9%), 0.0% tgt share
TE Peyton Hendershot: 4 snaps (6.1%), 0.0% tgt share

A week after posting a 7-117-1 line in the Divisional Round, Kelce (2-19-0) saw just 4 targets against the Bills.

Philadelphia

Offensive Snaps: 71

RB Saquon Barkley: 52 snaps (73.2%), 41.7% rush share, 8.3% tgt share
RB Kenneth Gainwell: 12 snaps (16.9%), 8.3% rush share, 8.3% tgt share
RB Will Shipley: 7 snaps (9.9%), 11.1% rush share, 0.0% tgt share

Barkley’s unreal season continued in the NFC Championship game against Washington. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry and found the endzone three times. Even Shipley (4-77-1) got in on the fun late in the game.

WR A.J. Brown: 63 snaps (88.7%), 33.3% tgt share
WR DeVonta Smith: 59 snaps (83.1%), 16.7% tgt share
WR Jahan Dotson: 39 snaps (54.9%), 0.0% tgt share
WR Johnny Wilson: 17 snaps (23.9%), 0.0% tgt share
WR Parris Campbell: 8 snaps (11.3%), 0.0% tgt share

Only two wideouts were targeted by Hurts in this game. Brown (6-96-1) led the duo with 8 targets.

TE Dallas Goedert: 58 snaps (81.7%), 33.3% tgt share
TE Grant Calcaterra: 31 snaps (43.7%), 0.0% tgt share
TE E.J. Jenkins: 7 snaps (9.9%), 0.0% tgt share

Goedert (7-85-0) tied Brown with 8 targets for the Eagles. He should be a focal point of the Eagles offense in the Super Bowl.

Zach Ertz

Washington

Offensive Snaps: 79

RB Austin Ekeler: 47 snaps (59.5%), 32.0% rush share, 14.9% tgt share
RB Brian Robinson Jr.: 41 snaps (51.9%), 44.0% rush share, 0.0% tgt share
RB Jeremy McNichols: 1 snap (1.3%), 0.0% rush share, 0.0% tgt share

The running game never got going for Washington as they couldn’t keep pace with Barkley and the Eagles offense. Robinson (11 touches) and Ekeler (13 touches) combined for 68 yards.

WR Terry McLaurin: 68 snaps (86.1%), 14.9% tgt share
WR Dyami Brown: 61 snaps (77.2%), 10.6% tgt share
WR Olamide Zaccheaus: 57 snaps (72.2%), 10.6% tgt share
WR Jamison Crowder: 23 snaps (29.1%), 6.4% tgt share
WR Luke McCaffrey: 12 snaps (15.2%), 2.1% tgt share

48 pass attempts from Jayden Daniels as the Commanders trailed for the entire game. The wideouts were basically a non-factor outside of McLaurin’s 36-yard slant route TD.

TE Zach Ertz: 63 snaps (79.7%), 34.0% tgt share
TE John Bates: 21 snaps (26.6%), 4.3% tgt share
TE Ben Sinnott: 1 snap (1.3%), 2.1% tgt share

Ertz (16 tgts) led all tight ends this week with a 34% target share.
