Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Steelers 23, 49ers 13
San Francisco: Shhhh…. don't tell anybody but the 49ers are 2-0. Is this the quietest 2-0 start in the history of the NFL? The 49ers are flying under the radar after a Mike-n- Mike Monday night win against Arizona week 1 and a one-point squeaker against St. Louis in week 2. But beat Pittsburgh this Sunday, and everyone will take notice. In order to do so, Darrel Jackson is going to have to stop dropping touchdowns and Vernon Davis needs to get involved in the offense. He's a mismatch against linebackers and there's no excuse for his lack of targets (7) and catches (4) to date. Unfortunately for Davis and the 49ers, Pittsburgh looks to be in mid-season form on defense making a 3-0 start just a dream.
- Start: RB Frank Gore, WR Darrell Jackson, TE Vernon Davis
- Consider: QB Alex Smith, WR Arnaz Battle, 49ers D/ST
- Sit: WR Taylor Jacobs
Pittsburgh: OK, its only Cleveland and Buffalo but the Steelers have looked dominant in the early-going, giving up next to nothing on defense and letting Willie Parker run wild to a top five rating in total offense. Pittsburgh leads the league in time of possession making Roethlisberger, Parker, Ward, and WR Santonio Holmes all are good plays until somebody stops them. Play the trend here, as the Steelers are a better all-around team than the improving 49ers.
- Start: QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Willie Parker, WR Hines Ward, WR Santonio Holmes,
- Consider: TE Heath Miller, Steelers D/ST, K Jeff Reed
- Sit: WR Cedrick Wilson, WR Nate Washington
