Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Buccaneers 20, Jaguars 3
Jacksonville: The Jaguars lost a game to the Colts last week but in reality lost their offensive stability when QB David Garrard left the game with a sprained ankle. It appears he will miss a few weeks leaving Quinn Gray at the controls. Gray looked out of sync against Indianapolis throwing two interceptions and routinely over-throwing receivers. He finished 9-of-24 for 56 yards. Don't be surprised if Jacksonville runs 75% of the time this week… its there only option to win. Of course, that gameplan may depend on the health of Maurice Jones-Drew who banged his knee late last week and will be questionable for the game. The Jags defense will keep them in this contest but the offense will undermine their chance for victory.
- Start: RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars D/ST
- Consider: RB Fred Taylor
- Sit: QB Quinn Gray, WR Dennis Northcutt, WR Ernest Wilford, TE Marcedes Lewis WR Matt Jones, K Josh Scobee (inj.)
Tampa Bay: Much like the Jaguars the Bucs would like to focus on the run game but after losing Cadillac and Pittman to injury, Jeff Garcia has become the focus. Garcia completed 18 straight passes in the first half against Detroit but also threw his first interception of the season in a 23-16 loss to the Lions. Michael Bennett saw his first action as Buc rushing for 22 yards on three carries. Expect Bennett to be more involved in the offense as the weeks play out and end up in a committee role with Graham by season's end. Both backs will struggle against a stubborn Jacksonville run defense and Garcia may find yards tough to come by through the air. But Quinn Gray is the equalizer here and should give Tampa enough opportunities to put points on the board.
- Start: WR Joey Galloway
- Consider: RB Earnest Graham
- Sit: TE Alex Smith, QB Jeff Garcia, WR Ike Hilliard, TE Jerramy Stevens
