Predicted Score: Packers 27, Giants 24
Green Bay: Since 1970, home teams are 49-25 (.662) in Conference Championship games, a good omen for the Green Bay Packers who take on the Giants this weekend at Lambeau Field where they have a decided advantage… just ask the Seattle Seahawks who were staked to an early 14-0 lead but couldn't overcome the snow, the mystique, and the play of the Green Bay Packers. Ryan Grant redeemed himself from two early fumbles by rushing for 201 yards and carried the Packers to a 42-20 win. The Giants, who traded Grant to the Packers back in September for a sixth-round draft pick, are hoping to slow down the Green Bay running back must also contend with a guy named "Favre" who happens to be enjoying a magical season of his own. A career high 66.5% completion rate and a plethora of weapons on the outside have Favre contemplating a return for 2008. First things first however… the Packers are playing as well as any team not named New England and will take the field with confidence in the bitter cold this Sunday night. Green Bay has won 18 of their last 21, are 15-2 in home playoff games, and has won 4 out of their last 5 contests with the Giants. This will be a much closer contest than last week, but a Favre-Brady Super Bowl matchup is right around the corner.
- Start: QB Brett Favre, RB Ryan Grant, WR Greg Jennings, WR Donald Driver
- Consider: Packers D/ST, TE Donald Lee, K Mason Crosby
- Sit: WR James Jones
New York Giants: You can't argue with 9 straight road wins and the play of Eli Manning who's 70% completion rate, 8 TDs, 1 INT, and 122 Passer Rating over the last three games have landed the Giants to the NFC Championship Game. Not to mention the Giants defensive line which in my mind is the best front-four in the league today. When Packers beat the Giants 35-13 in Week 2, New York only sacked Favre one time… they will have to put pressure on Favre this week at the same time control the emergent Ryan Grant who has given stability and balance to the Green Bay offense. Amani Toomer has quietly seen increased targets (12 the last two weeks) as its obvious Plaxico Burress is limited by his ankle injury. Expect Toomer and the running of Brandon Jacobs and rookie Ahmad Bradshaw to give the Giants a spark and keep them in this game until the bitter, and I do mean "bitter" (brrrrr) end but it will take a perfect game (no turnovers) from Manning and a defensive/special teams score for the Giants to pull this one out.
- Start: QB Eli Manning, RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Amani Toomer
- Consider: WR Plaxico Burress, Giants D/ST
- Sit: RB Ahmad Bradshaw, WR Steve Smith, TE Kevin Boss
