New England: Probably the most anticipated game of the weekend now has some extra fire for the talking heads to… talk about. Head coach Bill Belichick has been fined a cool $500K in "spy gate." The Patriots will also lose a draft pick or picks next depending on their finish in 2006. Don't look for this to have an affect on the field as the Patriots were clicking on all cylinders last week. Who needs training camp? Randy Moss surely doesn't. After missing all of August with a "hamstring" injury, Moss returned to practice just in time for Week 1, then dropped 183 yards and 1 TD on the Jets. Tom Brady looked sharp (22-28, 297 yds, 3 TDs) targeting Moss and Welker the most of his passes while TE Ben Watson picked up the remaining TD. The rushing workload was split between Laurence Maroney (20 carries) and Sammy Morris (11 carries).
- Start: QB Tom Brady, WR Randy Moss, RB Laurence Maroney
- Consider: WR Wes Welker, TE Ben Watson, Patriots D/ST
- Sit:RB Sammy Morris
San Diego: A sold victory against a stagnant Bears offense last week gives way to a bigger challenge this week as the Tom Brady and the Patriots come calling. The Bears held LaDainian Tomlinson in check, but as LT often does, he finds a way to get on the scoreboard, even tossing a TD to Antonio Gates. Speaking of Gates, he did miss some practice time this week with back spasms but is expected to play. Expect Gates and Tomlinson to get their numbers, but QB Phillip Rivers must make use of WR Vincent Jackson if the Chargers expect to pull out a victory.
- Start: RB LaDainian Tomlinson, TE Antonio Gates, QB Philip Rivers
- Consider: WR Vincent Jackson
- Sit:WR Craig Davis, WR Malcom Floyd, Chargers D/ST
