Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Cardinals 24, Panthers 13
Carolina: The Panthers have issues. Not only have they lost Jake Delhomme for the remainder of the season but also backup David Carr has not practiced all week because of a bad back suffered last week against the Saints. Rookie Matt Moore (who?) or old-timer Vinny Tesaverde will start if Carr can't go. Yes, the same Testaverde that won the Heisman Trophy back in 1986. All of this sounds like great news for Steve Smith who hasn't had more than 50 yards receiving since Week 2. Running back DeShaun Foster is averaging around 18 carries per game with mediocre success and should be considered a fringe starter in most leagues.
- Start: WR Steve Smith, QB Jake Delhomme,
- Consider: RB DeShaun Foster, TE Jeff King
- Sit: RB DeAngelo Williams, WR Drew Carter WR Keary Colbert, WR Dwayne Jarrett
Arizona: The Cardinals QB-by-committee is no more. Kurt Warner will get the start this week as Matt Leinart has been placed on injured reserve with a broken collarbone. Tim Rattay has been signed and will become Warner's backup. This may give the passing game a slight uptick as Warner has outperformed Leinart during their job-share. On a down note, wide receiver Anquan Boldin has not fully participated in practice this week and will likely miss his third straight game with a hip injury. Add Bryant Johnson to the list of good plays against a Carolina team that should struggle moving the ball giving James, Warner, and Fitzgerald plenty of chances to rack up yards.
- Start: QB Kurt Warner, RB Edgerrin James, WR Larry Fitzgerald
- Consider: WR Bryant Johnson
- Sit: WR Anquan Boldin, QB Matt Leinart, TE Leonard Pope
