Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Chiefs 20, Raiders 17
Kansas City: The Chiefs get a favorable matchup here against the Raiders run defense, which ranks in the bottom five. Larry Johnson has two 100-yd games this season and should approach that number here. The Chiefs will be without Michael Bennett who was traded to Tampa this week paving the way for rookie Kolby Smith to become Johnson's backup. Priest Holmes did practice this week but will only see limited action, if he plays at all. Tight End Tony Gonzalez has two straight 100-yd games and seems to be in sync with Damon Huard. Gonzalez has always played well against the Raiders so don't be surprised if they use him as a decoy to get Dwayne Bowe some looks early. This game should come down to a field goal either way and while a Chiefs' homer is writing this preview, don't forget the Chiefs have won eight straight games against the Oakland
- Start: RB Larry Johnson, TE Tony Gonzalez
- Consider: WR Dwayne Bowe QB Damon Huard
- Sit: WR Samie Parker, WR Jeff Webb, K Dave Rayner
Oakland: It looked iffy for LaMont Jordan during practice last week but come gametime he carried the load (18 carries, 6 receptions). He didn't carry it very far (42 rushing yards) but Oakland still ranks among the league leaders in rushing at 166 yards per game. Dominic Rhodes did suit up last week but didn't see action as the Raiders fell behind the Chargers. I expect Jordan and Rhodes to get plenty of carries as they attack the weakness in the Chiefs defense. Culpepper and the passing game should find minimal success against the 7th ranked pass defense in the league. This is a field goal that could likely be decided by a key turnover.
- Start: RB LaMont Jordan
- Consider: WR Ronald Curry WR Jerry Porter, TE Zach Miller, QB Daunte Culpepper
- Sit: WR Travis Taylor
