Predicted Score: Buccaneers 20, Lions 17
Tampa Bay: A pivotal game here for two teams with winning records. The Bucs were able to outlast the Titans last week who lost Vince Young for most of the second half but now travel to face a Lions team that should give the Bucs' 8th ranked pass defense a real challenge. Jeff Garcia continues to post mediocre numbers but still hasn't thrown an interception and faces a Lions pass defense that can be had. Look for Garcia and Galloway to hook up in this game. Tampa has added Michael Bennett (KC) this week to help improve a running game that sputtered with Earnest Graham against Tennessee. Give Bennett a week or two to get acclimated to the system but don't be surprised if he's starting at some point during the season.
- Start: WR Joey Galloway
- Consider: RB Earnest Graham. QB Jeff Garcia, WR Ike Hilliard, TE Alex Smith
- Sit: TE Jerramy Stevens
Detroit: The Lions, coming off their bye, have announced the Kevin Jones will start the game at the running back much to the chagrin of Tatum Bell who quietly asked for a trade. Bell has since cooled his demands and will play backup to Jones this week against the Bucs. Tampa's defense should make life difficult for Kitna and the receivers so don't expect high-flying numbers from the Mike Martz offense. Rookie Calvin Johnson used the bye week to heal his aching back and is expected to play. The Bucs have won four straight games against the Lions.
- Start: QB Jon Kitna, WR Roy Williams, WR Calvin Johnson
- Consider: WR Mike Furrey, WR Shaun McDonald, Lions D/ST
- Sit: RB Tatum Bell, TE Dan Campbell
