Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Giants 24, 49ers 17
New York Giants: After a 0-2 start the Giants find themselves at 4-2 and looking like a playoff team in the NFC. Wide Receiver Plaxico Burress has caught a touchdown pass in every game and no matter who's running the ball the Giants are gaining ground. Brandon Jacobs got dinged up twice against the Falcons (neck, ankle) but is expected to play against the 49ers. San Francisco does have an improving defense, which could slow down the Giants somewhat but New York is the better all-around team and isn't starting Trent Dilfer at quarterback.
- Start: QB Eli Manning, WR Plaxico Burress, TE Jeremy Shockey
- Consider: RB Brandon Jacobs, WR Amani Toomer, Giants D/ST
- Sit: RB Derrick Ward WR Steve Smith
San Francisco: The 49ers are coming off their bye week and get some help on offense. Tight end Vernon Davis (sprained knee) and QB Alex Smith (shoulder) have a chance to play this week depending on their work in practice. Any spark would be a welcome change. Frank Gore has disappointed, not having rushed for more than 81 yards in any one game and scoring only 3 TDs. Wide receiver Darrell Jackson leads the team with 210 yards receiving and the offense as a whole ranks dead last in yards per game. Maybe some home cookin' will do them good, but I'll take Eli and Plaxico (on one good leg) anytime against Trent Dilfer and Arnaz Battle.
- Start: RB Frank Gore
- Consider: WR Darrell Jackson, TE Vernon Davis
- Sit: QB Trent Dilfer, WR Arnaz Battle, 49ers D/ST
