Game Preview
Mike Krueger

Predicted Score: Chiefs 20, Packers 17

Green Bay: The Packers pulled out an overtime victory on the road against the Broncos using their fourth starting running back of the season but face a better a defense and a better team this week in the Kansas City Chiefs. Ryan Grant, who rushed for 104 yards against Denver, will get the start this week thanks to DeShawn Wynn being placed on injured reserve with a bum shoulder. Vernand Morency will fill the third-down role but expect the Packers to lean on Favre and the passing game against KC. Against the predominant zone coverage the Chiefs play there should be some open holes over the middle for Donald Driver and tight end Donald Lee but don't expect a lot of scoring as the Chiefs have perfected the "bend but don't break" style of defense. These team play close games so there no reason to think this one will be any different and will likely be decided by Favre's arm… not throwing touchdowns but one too many interceptions.

  • Start: QB Brett Favre
  • Consider: RB Ryan Grant, WR Donald Driver, WR James Jones WR Greg Jennings, TE Donald Lee, Packers D/ST, K Mason Crosby
  • Sit: RB Brandon Jackson, RB Vernand Morency (inj)

Kansas City: We have some interesting dynamics working for this game. The Chiefs have had two weeks to prepare, the Packers are coming off a short week (playing Monday night against the Broncos), and for all his glory there's one team Brett Favre has never beaten… the Kansas City Chiefs. Speaking of KC's bye week, it couldn't of come at a better time for quarterback Damon Huard who's taken a beating over the first eight weeks and sorely (no pun intended) needed a week off. The running game seems to be on the upswing with Larry Johnson topping 100 yards the last two weeks and the defense playing up to par allowing 14.6 points per game, fifth best in the league. With two solid defenses on display this should be a low-scoring contest favoring the home team by a field goal.

  • Start: RB Larry Johnson, TE Tony Gonzalez
  • Consider: WR Dwayne Bowe, K Dave Rayner
  • Sit: QB Damon Huard, WR Samie Parker, WR Jeff Webb
