Game Preview

Predicted Score: 49ers 12, Falcons 10
San Francisco: After winning their first two the 49ers have lost five straight and are struggling find a rhythm on offense. Alex Smith returned from a shoulder injury last week but was ineffective (22-43, 190 yds, 1 TD) and Frank Gore continues to be mired in mediocrity, failing to rush for 100 yards in any game this season and failing to reach the endzone since Week 2. He's battled nagging injuries all season the latest being a sprained ankle suffered last week against the Saints. Wide receiver Darrell Jackson missed last week's game with a quad injury but is practicing the week and likely will return. So why am I picking the 49ers to win this week? Well, somebody has to win this game…. maybe Vernon Davis makes some more plays this week and leaves kicker Joe Nedney in great position to boot four field goals minus any obscene gestures.
- Start: TE Vernon Davis
- Consider: RB Frank Gore
- Sit: WR Darrell Jackson, QB Alex Smith, WR Arnaz Battle, 49ers D/ST
Atlanta: For their part the Falcons sport a 1-6 record and will again make a quarterback change as Byron Leftwich did his usual thing and got injured. Leftwich had surgery on his ankle last week and although rehab is going well, he's expected to miss another couple weeks. Don't rush it Byron, your team isn't that good and your offensive line is even worse. The running game is going nowhere, at least with Warrick Dunn who's averaging 3.0 yards per carry. Jerious Norwood, with limited touches, is performing much better but can't be started due to his lack of attempts. Roddy White has replaced Alge Crumpler as the team's main target through the air and is the only player you should consider for your fantasy team. Don't watch this game… go rake the leaves, play with your kids, do laundry, or have a tooth pulled and wait for the Super Bowl 41 ½ at 4:15 EST.
- Start: WR Roddy White
- Consider: N/A
- Sit: RB Warrick Dunn, TE Alge Crumpler RB Jerious Norwood, QB Joey Harrington, WR Joe Horn, WR Michael Jenkins
