Game Preview Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Chiefs 20, Broncos 10
Kansas City: The Chiefs are coming off a disappointing loss at home to Green Bay but due to the mediocrity in the division; still find themselves in first place, tied with the San Diego Chargers. On paper this looks like an easy win for the Chiefs as the Broncos will play with a banged up quarterback and can't seem to stop the run to save their lives. Problem is, the Chiefs offensive line and running game is subpar and now Larry Johnson is sidelined with in the words of Herman Edwards… "a swoll foot." Whatever that is, it means Priest Holmes and rookie Kolby Smith will handle the rushing duties and a banged up Damon Huard will try to throw Tony Gonzalez and …. Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez leads the team with 615 yards and 4 TDs and represents the lone threat in the passing game. Dwayne Bowe is expected to play despite a hamstring injury suffered last week and Eddie Kennision is expected back in the starting lineup after missing most of the season with a hamstring injury of his own. All this leads to a difficult game to call but I'll give the nod to the home team and hope for the best.
- Start: TE Tony Gonzalez
- Consider: QB Damon Huard, RB Priest Holmes
- Sit: WR Dwayne Bowe, RB Larry Johnson, WR Jeff Webb, K Dave Rayner, WR Samie Parker
Denver: The Broncos are stumbling after an embarrassing 44-7 loss in Detroit last week in which Jay Cutler was carted off after taking a helmet to his lower leg. HC Mike Shanahan said following Wednesday's practice that if Cutler didn't suffer "a setback, he should be ready to go. I'm not sure how much it hurt, but he was productive out there and took his normal reps, maybe a little less, but it was a good sign." Travis Henry sat out the fourth quarter in Detroit with his knee injury and missed practice Wednesday but is expected to start. But it doesn't really matter. Granter, the Chiefs are no great shakes, but the Broncos are even worse and note the home team has won nine straight regular-season games between these two… advantage KC.
- Start: N/A
- Consider: RB Travis Henry, WR Brandon Marshall, WR Brandon Stokley, K Jason Elam
- Sit: QB Jay Cutler, TE Tony Scheffler, WR Javon Walker, TE Daniel Graham
