Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Vikings 17, Lions 16
Detroit: With their playoff hopes sliding down the tubes, the Lions need a win to right the ship and end their three game losing streak. Detroit did beat the Vikings earlier this year (20-17 in overtime) but face a big challenge, as they haven't won in the Metrodome in ten years. The Lions and Kevin Jones will struggle to run the ball against a Minnesota defense that ranks 1st in the league against the rush making the Detroit offense one-dimensional. Assuming Kitna can stay upright and whether the sack brigage, he should post some garbage time numbers as the Lions attempt a comeback making the game closer than the final score will indicate.
- Start: QB Jon Kitna, WR Roy Williams, WR Calvin Johnson
- Consider: RB Tatum Bell, WR Mike Furrey, WR Shaun McDonald, Lions D/ST
- Sit: TE Dan Campbell
Minnesota: After twelve weeks, it's no secret how the Vikings are winning games including three out of their last four. Defense and running are Minnesota's game and while Chester Taylor is capable of handling the latter on his own, he may get some help this week. Adrain Peterson is expected to return from a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. Head coach Brad Childress said that Peterson would likely split carries with Taylor but both running backs could get 30 carries a piece in order to keep the ball away from his pathetic passing game. OK, so he wasn't that candid but he might as well be. Tarvaris Jackson has started seven games this season - he has 3 TDs, 6 INTs and has yet to throw for more than 171 yards in a game. Can this team really make the playoffs with no substantial passing attack? Maybe not, but they can sure beat the Lions without one.
- Start: RB Chester Taylor
- Consider: RB Adrian Peterson (inj)
- Sit: QB Tarvaris Jackson, TE Visanthe Shiancoe, WR Troy Williamson, WR Bobby Wade, WR Sidney Rice
