Game Preview
Mike Krueger
Predicted Score: Buccaneers 21, 49ers 10
San Francisco: Trent Dilfer has been ruled out for this week, meaning Shaun Hill will make his second straight start after throwing for 197 yards and scoring two touchdowns (1 pass, 1 rush) against the Bengals. However, San Francisco will face a much better defense this week so look for the 49ers offense to return to mediocrity or even below, despite playing at home. Frank Gore has struggled against the top run defenses like Minnesota (68 yds), Baltimore (52 yds), and Pittsburgh (39 yds) so don't look for a repeat performance of Week 15 when Gore rushed 29 times for 138 yards.
- Start: TE Vernon Davis
- Consider: RB Frank Gore
- Sit: WR Darrell Jackson, QB Alex Smith, WR Arnaz Battle, 49ers D/ST
Tampa Bay: Jeff Garcia threw for 101 yards last week, Joey Galloway had one catch for 7 yards and the Bucs scored 37 points. Tampa blew out the Falcons thanks to defense and a running game featuring Earnest Graham, Michael Bennett, and Michael Pittman… all rushed for at least 50 yards, totaling 192 between them. You would expect Tampa to take it easy the next two weeks but they still have some playoff positioning to battle for and don't hold the tie-breaker over Seattle meaning Graham is still a good play and potentially Garcia/Galloway - especially against the 49ers defense that's given up big days to Bulger, Hasselbeck (twice), Brees, and Warner.
- Start: RB Earnest Graham
- Consider: WR Joey Galloway, QB Jeff Garcia
- Sit: TE Alex Smith, WR Ike Hilliard, TE Jerramy Stevens
